This past week was pretty EPIC! On Wednesday 11/20 we partnered with Miami HEAT players, Bam Adebayo and Udonis Haslem and their amazing foundations, Love Has No Limits and OnDecker to present a Pre-Thanksgiving event featuring our unique and respectful Food Rescue US South Florida Farmers Market! It was also #GiveMiamiDay presented by The Miami Foundation and we watched as this years donations topped our goal! ???? (we even flew a banner over Miami Beach: Support Food Rescue US on Give Miami Day) Thank you! And on Saturday 11/23 we hosted another Pre- Thanksgiving Farmers Market with Major Hogg and our friends at The Salvation Army of Miami-Dade County providing for over 800 food insecure and Seniors. Thank you for support from CMA CGM Florida Blue Humana and our partners, Junior League of Miami for helping us make a special and meaningful event for all. We are honored to support the underresourced and underserved in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Giving Thanks for Thanksgiving!

As Florida and the southeast continues to recover and clean up after the devastation of Hurricane Helene, we are watching another Cat 5 hurricane form in the Gulf of Mexico and head directly to Florida. #HurricaneMilton Our friends from World Central Kitchen and Michael Capponi and his Global Empowerment Mission have teams all over the impacted areas, including our Food Rescue US South Florida Site Coordinator, Laurita, who has been in the Tampa area helping WCK to coordinate food trucks and set up free meal stations and field kitchens. Thank you to our food donor and friend, Brian Mullins of @MsCheezious, who has brought his amazing food truck to the west coast of Florida! #chefsforflorida #foodtrucksforflorida #foodrescueus And as part of our Hurricane Preparedness, our Food Rescue team is ready to rescue any perishable food in the event of massive power outages at local markets and restaurants and deliver it to evacuation shelters, pantries and those in need.

Our Food Rescue US South Florida Site Coordinator, Laurita, first met World Central Kitchen in 2020 during Covid, when they partnered with us at?Red Rooster Overtown?and 25 other local restaurants as we provided over 65,000 meals to furloughed, houseless and healthcare workers. Since then, Laurita has continued to be part of?the World Central Kitchen?Emergency Response Team, traveling to New Orleans, Kentucky, Tennessee and now for the third time to the West Coast of Florida for Hurricane Helene relief. She is our HERO ??♀? and we are so honored that she is an integral member of?Food Rescue US South Florida and pray for all the families in Florida, and in NC, SC, Tenn, and Georgia who have been devastated by the flooding and extensive damage. Lives can change in a minute. We know first hand from our work providing for those less fortunate that food helps to heal and that Food=Love ?? Every year since September 11th, 2001, I have joined my brother, David Paine’s non profit 9/11 Day to honor the victims, heroes and first responders who died that day as the result of the terrorist attacks on our country. We volunteer as a way of turning a terrible day into a day of unity and doing good deeds. What started as 20 of us painting a schoolyard in lower Manhattan has grown into Meal Pack events in 21 cities and tens of thousands volunteering with the goal to pack millions of meals for those in need. In 2009, Congress signed into law making September 11th a National Day of Service and Remembrance. This year, we will be at the USS Intrepid in NYC, and I have a couple volunteer spots on my team from 2-4 pm still available if anyone wants to join me. DM me if you are interested.
