Making greater impact, together. 182M+ lbs rescued by 16 partners & a growing community of 49K+ volunteers ????
关于我们
Food Rescue Hero automates the time consuming, complicated and variable coordination of fresh retail food recovery so your team can reliably deliver more nutritious food to your community neighbors who need it most. Since 2016, the Food Rescue Hero Network has recovered 160M+ pounds of food, the equivalent of 130M+ meals, with 17 partners and a growing community of 51,000+ volunteers we call #FoodRescueHeroes. Launched in 2016, Food Rescue Hero was purposefully designed to automate the time consuming tasks associated with food recovery, to fuel growth and scaling potential. With Food Rescue Hero, coordination between food donors, non-profit partners and volunteer drivers becomes reliable, timely and transparent. Reliable, timely and transparent operations yield greater food waste prevention and shrink for real time data transparency and greater overall impact. Food Rescue Hero uniquely enables community food recovery efforts to have a greater impact on food waste, nutrition security and climate change on a local level, thereby contributing to our network's impact on our nation. Volunteer management, one of the most difficult aspects of food rescue to manage, is made nearly turnkey through the Food Rescue Hero app. Volunteer drivers get alerted when a food rescue is available near them and then are guided from donation pick up to delivery to a local non-profit, for unparalleled visibility and tracking. With commitment to human-centered design, each volunteer experiences an encouraging, positive app interaction that's contagious and fuels the movement, ultimately resulting in a 99% service level, which outperforms commercial transport rates. Our network is growing, giving even greater resources for each partner food rescue to do a lot, even if they have limited staff and resources. This makes a huge difference, especially at launch, to build community momentum and create even greater impact.

During the Food Rescue Conference, we had the privilege of showing our partners from across the United States and Canada around Pittsburgh, showcasing the food rescue initiatives of 412 Food Rescue. We stopped at PNC Park to learn about the partnership between the Pittsburgh Pirates and 412 Food Rescue, an effort to redistribute leftover food from the stadium. Next, we headed over to 412 Food Rescue's Good Food Project, sharing the techniques crafted in Pittsburgh with the Food Rescue Hero partner network. At the Good Food Project, we stabilize bulk food donations into grocery bags of food and ready-to-eat meals to increase food access. We're extremely grateful to be able to share these programs and techniques with our partners who will take the information learned in Pittsburgh back to their home cities ??

Driven by collaboration and purpose-- Time to step up to the plate and change the game. It is clear that tackling food insecurity and sustainability demands bold collaboration. From behind-the-scenes tours of PNC Park's sustainability initiatives to seeing the Good Food Project’s zero-waste kitchen in action, the solutions were inspiring. I had the privilege of moderating and guiding packed sessions with leaders dedicated to transformative solutions. One session highlighted Food as Medicine, featuring Dr. Jule Anne Henstenburg of MANNA, Tori Beggs, at Allegheny Health Network, and Katie Jackson at Project Open Hand. This panel of dedicated dietitians is driving a movement that goes beyond food security, using food as a tool for healing and building essential bridges between nonprofits and healthcare. Another dynamic panel with Vanessa Mukhebi from ReFED, Taylor Ryan, of Change Today, Change Tomorrow Inc., and Victoria Zapata at Food Rescue US challenged us to rethink our approach to food justice and systemic change, sparking actionable ideas that ground bold visions in real community impact, pushing us all to turn purpose into practice. The powerful session on lobbying and advocacy was incredibly actionable, featuring Alyssa Cholodofsky, CEO of 412 Food Rescue, along with Niyeti Shah and Tori Oto from the Zero Waste Coalition, representing the collaboration between Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Harvard Law School’s Food Law and Policy Clinic, ReFED, and WWF. This panel highlighted the powerful role of advocacy in mobilizing for systemic change for lasting environmental impact. Sessions on Zero Waste emphasized the power of collaboration. Amanda Pagniello from 412 Food Rescue, David Velez from TAWA Compost Food Rescue, and Ruby Calderon from We Don't Waste presented concepts like “banana peel carnitas” and practical strategies for reducing waste at the community level. Proud of the Philly crew bringing their A-game! Annamarie Scozzare’s tenacious drive to foster collaboration at The Cigna Group has been incredible to see. Years ago, I launched Philly Food Rescue, and it’s inspiring to watch Suzannah Hartzell, Azza Bushra, Britt Korn, and Amanda Ruffner now taking it to new heights through Share Food Program. Their dedication is creating real change for our community. A big shoutout to the Food Rescue Hero network and staff—especially Jennifer England for her visionary leadership in bringing this conference to life and uniting diverse voices, and to Diane Walter for ensuring everything ran smoothly. I learn so much from each of you! Thanks to Poetica Marketing for live-streaming these important conversations. The 2024 Food Rescue Conference in Pittsburgh showcased the power of collaboration, with passionate voices from every sector driving real change. Honored to be part of this journey with such dedicated changemakers!
