关于我们
The Food is Medicine Coalition (FIMC) is a national coalition of nonprofit organizations that provide medically tailored meals (MTMs) and groceries (MTGs), medical nutrition therapy and nutrition counseling and education to people in communities across the country living with severe and chronic illnesses. We advance equitable access to these life-saving interventions through policy change, research and evaluation, and best practices. FIMC agencies created the medically tailored meal model and maintain the nutrition standards for the intervention. FIMC offers a diverse community of learning for existing practitioners and equips new organizations to launch medically tailored meal programs.

Today, we celebrate the incredible Registered Dietitians (RDNs) who are at the heart of our mission—using the power of food as medicine to improve health and transform lives. ???? RDNs play a vital role in medically tailored meal programs, ensuring that individuals facing chronic illness receive the nutrition they need to heal, thrive, and maintain their well-being. Their expertise in medical nutrition therapy helps prevent hospitalizations, improve patient outcomes, and advance health equity. ?#FoodIsMedicine #RDNDay #NationalNutritionMonth?

Support the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program by making a strong investment to scale nutrition incentives and produce prescriptions. Many FIMC agencies offer not only MTM, but also MTG and Produce Rx.?#foodismedicine

For the FY25 Budget cycle, we ask Congress to provide meaningful funding increases for #foodismedicine Research at National Institutes of Health for the #FIM Initiative work at U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and for Produce Rx at the Indian Health Service and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

We ask Congress to protect critical programs. Under the potential federal funding freeze, the status of vital, bipartisan programs delivering cost-effective, community-centered nutrition is uncertain. #MTMsWork #FoodIsMedicine?

? Our coalition of nonprofit medically tailored food and nutrition service providers throughout the U.S. encourages Congress to preserve Medicaid for the 80 million people – including seniors, children, veterans, employed adults, and people with disabilities and chronic health condition – who rely on for access to high quality healthcare. ?? Medicaid has been the primary source of new cost-effective policies for coverage of Food is Medicine interventions.?? Any cut to Medicaid means people across every state will lose access to quality medical care, which is vital to the prevention, treatment, and management of severe and chronic diseases and to long term health improvement and cost savings for our country. #MTMsWork #FoodIsMedicine?

We encourage Congress to pass the #MedicallyTailoredMeals Demonstration Pilot Act. Passing the MTM Bill will save money and lives by expanding access to MTMs through a Medicare Pilot to address the link between diet, chronic disease, and the health of Medicare enrollees and people with disabilities. #MTMsWork #MTMBill?

#FoodisMedicine is a bipartisan issue. #MTMs are a straightforward solution to many of our health systems complex challenges. Research shows that access to food is medicine interventions results in lower cost of care, better health outcomes, and happy patients. #MTMswork #MTMBill?

??Today, our FIMC team, Alissa Wassung Maya Park and Cate Hensley, are among 200 attendees from at least 28 states and D.C. visiting Capitol Hill for the 2nd Annual Food is Medicine Advocacy Day. #foodismedicine—the integration into healthcare of food-based nutrition programs and interventions to advance specific health needs—can play a critical role in addressing the growing disease burdens and costs associated with diet-related illnesses in communities across the nation. ??The event includes patients and participants in FIM programs, physicians, registered dietitians, food industry representatives, food banks, providers of medically tailored meals, medically tailored groceries, and produce prescriptions, health systems, life insurers, researchers, nonprofit organizations, and more, with experience in all facets of food is medicine. Attendees are educating Congress on the importance of #foodismedicine and may also discuss specific topics such as #medicallytailoredmeals #medicallytailoredgroceries #produceprescriptions #nutritionresearch #nutritioneducation.
