Our hearts go out to all those affected by the devastating #MountainFire in Ventura County. The recent days have been incredibly tough, bringing hardship to many in our communities. At Food Forward, we have quickly mobilized efforts to help provide fresh produce and relief to those impacted. Tomorrow (Nov. 9), Food Forward is providing rescued produce to RUBEN CASTRO CHARITIES for an emergency food distribution in Moorpark. Many of our cherished partners have faced property loss or severe damage, including: ?Mulberry Lane Farm (Somis) ?Apricot Lane Farms (Moorpark) ?McGrath Family Farmers (Camarillo) ?Underwood Family Farms (Moorpark and Somis) In times like these, kindness and community strength become our foundation. Earlier this year I joined the board of Food Forward Inc., an organization I have long admired and supported. Food Forward recovers fresh produce that would otherwise go to waste--last year nearly 90 million pounds of surplus produce--and distributes it to those experiencing food insecurity. Exciting news! ?? Thanks to OXO's dedication to 1% for the Planet, Food Forward can increase the recovery of produce that would otherwise go to waste. That means we can distribute even more healthy food to the 250+ hunger relief partners we support, all while reducing emissions! ?? ?? With grant funding from OXO, we'll be able to recover and distribute an additional 1.4 million pounds (over 8 million servings!) of fresh fruits and vegetables through our Wholesale Recovery Program. It's #NationalFoodBankDay and we want to recognize the staff and the volunteers who work tirelessly to to serve their communities by addressing food access and insecurity challenges. We would like to recognize our partners at Feeding America and their incredible network of food banks including Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County whose volunteers are featured in this video during the food rescue effort following the Global Produce & Floral Show in Anaheim. Last year, this team along with partner Food Forward Inc., collected and distributed over 221,000 lbs of produce for the local communities (plus 6,000lbs of floral!). We look forward to continuing our partnership with Feeding America's network in Atlanta next month at #GPFS2024.
