To eliminate hunger and food waste while improving nutrition in food insecure communities.

关于我们

Food Finders is a non-profit food rescue organization serving Los Angeles, Orange County, San Bernardino and Riverside counties. We rescue good, wholesome perishable and non-perishable food, personal hygiene items, household items and pet food. Donors include LA produce market, grocery stores, restaurants, hospitals, hotels, schools, farmers markets, catering companies, manufacturers and distributors. Food is then delivered directly to one of our 330 partner agencies. Agencies include missions, food pantries, churches, senior centers, sober livings, and shelters. Food Finders has various programs that include our Food 4 Kids Program that provides 380 weekly bags of food to 15 Long Beach schools on Fridays. Our College Pantry start up provides the initial donation to open the pantry and we provide or can purchase additional food throughout the school year. We also strengthen the communities we serve by supporting events such as senior breakfasts, book fairs, back to school events and holiday distributions with food. Lastly our Food Bank Think Tanks provides our partner agencies with workshops, legislation updates, technology resources and social service and nutrition education resources. Our mission is to eliminate hunger and food waste while improving nutrition in the food-insecure communities we serve. In 28 years, we've rescued over 134 million pounds of food, that is enough food for nearly 111 million meals or enough food to feed the state of CA more than 2.8 times! At Food Finders, strong community partnerships are the foundation of our impact. This week, our Donor Engagement Manager, Maggie Gisel, met with the Bixby Knolls/North Long Beach Kiwanis, a steadfast supporter of our mission since 2008. Through food drives, grants, and hands-on volunteer work, Kiwanis has played a vital role in helping us reduce food waste and fight hunger. We’re excited to have their volunteers join us once again for Stamp Out Hunger on May 10th! As part of their long-standing tradition, Maggie signed a Dr. Seuss book, which will be donated to the Dana Branch Public Library in Bixby Knolls—fostering a love of reading while reinforcing the power of community service. We’re grateful for partners like Kiwanis who share our vision of a hunger-free future! #FoodFinders #KiwanisClub #CommunityPartnerships #FightingHunger #StampOutHunger

  • Food Finders is proud to partner with Long Beach FC this season as they collect non-perishable food donations at their home matches to support food-insecure individuals in our community. Our own Maggie Gisel had the privilege of attending LBFC’s second match against Laguna United this weekend, and we’re excited to celebrate both their on-field success and their commitment to making a difference off the field. Thank you, Long Beach FC, for championing the fight against hunger, and congratulations on your well-earned victory! We look forward to seeing this partnership grow throughout the season. #LongBeachFC #FoodFinders #CommunityImpact #FightingHunger #Teamwork

  • It’s always inspiring to see young people take action for social good! Two students from Wilson High School recently volunteered at our warehouse, sorting food as part of their Social Justice class project. Their efforts contribute directly to reducing food waste and providing meals to those in need. Thank you for your commitment to making a difference in the community! ?? #SocialImpact #FoodRescue #FutureLeaders

  • This table is filled with leftover food from a corporate event—untouched pizzas, salads, dressings, toppings, cupcakes, and even some breakfast items! ???? All of this was picked up by Victory Outreach in Santa Ana. Did you know? If you have leftover food from your corporate events, you can always call Food Finders! We'll connect with a local non-profit partner to pick it up directly from your location. ???? Let's work together to reduce food waste and help those in need! #FoodRescue #ReduceFoodWaste #GivingBack #FoodFinders

  • The Hidden Cost of Confusing Food Date Labels: Why We Need Standardization Now Every day, millions of pounds of edible food are thrown away—not because they are unsafe to eat, but because of confusing and inconsistent date labels like “Best By,” “Sell By,” and “Use By.” and various other non-standardized terms. Creating confusion across all levels of our food system. As a nonprofit dedicated to food recovery and redistribution, we see firsthand how this prevents businesses from donating food, forces food banks to discard perfectly good items, and contributes to one of the biggest food waste challenges in the U.S. Food date labeling may seem like a small detail, but the impact is massive: 84% of consumers discard food past the labeled date—even when it's still safe to eat. In 2023 alone, 6 million tons of food—worth $30.5 billion—were wasted because of label confusion. Meanwhile, 18 million American households face food insecurity, yet nearly 40% of all food produced in the U.S. goes uneaten or unsold. Food waste is the #1 material in landfills, where it generates methane, a greenhouse gas 80 times more harmful than CO?. This isn’t just about individual decisions—it’s about a systemic issue that affects our food supply chain, economy, and environment. Businesses hesitate to donate past-date food, food banks struggle with sorting policies, and families throw out food out of fear rather than fact. A Simple, Low-Cost Solution: Standardized Food Date Labels We support the USDA and FDA's efforts to standardize food date labels—an easy, cost-effective solution that would: ? Clarify the difference between food safety and quality ? Help food banks, pantries, and recovery organizations rescue more quality food ? Reduce food waste and save billions of dollars annually ? Empower consumers to make informed choices and save money ? Cut harmful methane emissions from food waste in landfills A standardized system would remove confusion and ensure more food is donated, less is wasted, and more families receive the nutrition they need. Your Voice Matters – Take Action Before March 5th! The USDA and FDA are now accepting public comments on food date labeling, and this is a critical opportunity to push for change. Whether you’re an individual, a business, or an organization that works in food recovery, your voice matters in shaping this policy. ?? • We are so grateful to the Rossmoor Woman’s Club members who volunteered with us in the warehouse yesterday! They packed Food4Kids boxes and wrote inspiring notes for the students receiving them—because a little encouragement can go a long way. Rossmoor Woman’s Club has been a dedicated partner of Food Finders since 2011, consistently showing up to help us fight food insecurity in our community. We appreciate their ongoing support in ensuring children have access to nutritious meals. Thank you, Rossmoor Woman’s Club, for your continued generosity and service! #FoodFinders #Food4Kids #CommunitySupport #FightingHunger #Volunteerism #RossmoorWomansClub

  • There is still time to make your voice heard! The U.S. FSIS & FDA want YOUR input on food date labels before March 5th! 80% of consumers toss food just because it’s past the date even though it is often still safe to eat! Standardizing labels could cut waste, save money, and reduce emissions. ?? Submitting a comment takes just 2 minutes—and we’ve made it easy with guides & templates! Every voice counts. https://lnkd.in/g5mhs5m8 Please share this post!
