The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan was founded in 1981 as a grassroots community organization serving agencies in Genesee County. Since, due to increasing need for our services around the state, the Food Bank has grown to serve a network of more than 700 Hunger Relief Partners, including partner agencies, schools, and other community organizations. Once food arrives at the Food Bank, it is sorted, inspected, and made available to partner agencies such as churches, soup kitchens, and food pantries to distribute to those in need. All Food Bank partner agencies are required to distribute food, without charges or fees, to needy clients. The Food Bank also partners with schools who distribute food through our Backpack Program and School Pantry Program and provides meals during our Summer Feeding Program. The Food Bank serves more than 330,000 families through our partner agencies per year and distributes more than 28 million pounds of food, including 11 million pounds of fresh produce annually. Through our network of partners that includes retail grocery chains and farmers, the Food Bank is able to maximize monetary donations. As little as $1 can provide up to six meals for people in need. THE RESULTS ARE HERE! Last week, our fine team collaborated with PARKER LANE Art & Design Studios at the Loft to bring you the first ever Brush Off Hunger event. This fundraiser was designed to raise hunger awareness by leading participants in a fun painting exercise. After all was said and done, an incredible $4,848.28 was raised for our cause and we couldn't be prouder! The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan is trying something new! Buy candles to benefit the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and 50% of all sales will be donated back to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan! The Food Bank has been committed to fighting hunger and working to meet the rising need since it first began as a small grass-roots organization in Genesee County, in 1981. 98% of your contribution goes directly to food and feeding programs. Partnerships with grocers, food manufacturers, and distributors help leverage every dollar into six meals for those in need. Our network of nearly 600 hunger relief partners, such as churches, pantries, schools, shelters, and soup kitchens, serves more than 211,270 people each year, including nearly 57,000 children and over 16,000 senior citizens throughout our 22-county service area. This fundraiser is a great way to get your holiday shopping done, all while supporting the fight to end Food Insecurity in Michigan! Date and Time: Orders placed from November 4th-November 18th (before 3pm) will be available for pickup at the end of November/ early December Orders placed from November 18th (After 3pm)-December 2nd (before 3pm) will be available for pickup at the middle of December Orders placed from December 2nd (After 3pm) -December 16th (before 3pm) will be available for pickup at the end of December/ early January Please Note: These orders are not guaranteed to be available before Christmas!
