We love a success story! Meet Brody! Brody graduated from The Kitchen School in December 2024. He is now working full time at Harvest Market in Hockessin as a Kitchen Assistant! Brody loves the calm atmosphere of the Harvest Market kitchen and the family feel among the staff. While he was a student, Brody liked learning new cooking skills and perfecting his knife skills. We love it when first impressions lead to a long-lasting positive impact. Take Tatiana’s experience in our Summer Culinary Exploration Program three or four years ago. This Dover resident, was still in high school going through some pretty tough times at home. Tatiana grew up in the state’s foster care system. But she enjoyed the 6-week program where she became acquainted with Chef Tish, one of our chef instructors. She enjoyed the encouragement and the support she experienced in our commercial kitchen. “I was extremely excited, extremely motivated, happy.” Now, she’s returned to the Food Bank’s Culinary School, and she’s nurturing some professional goals bolstered by a business plan she created in her Jobs for Delaware Graduates class. “I like it; it’s faster and harder. The test-taking is challenging. I like the program. It’s my escape, my remedy. I need this,” Tatiana said.

“Essentially, we had anticipated receiving many truckloads of U.S.D.A. food over the next few months,” said Cathy Kanefsky, the president and chief executive officer of the Food Bank of Delaware. “Now it’s uncertain whether we will receive this food, meaning less meals we can provide to our neighbors,” she said, adding: “The effect on our neighbors could be devastating.” https://lnkd.in/erd6n9WQ

At a time when demand for food assistance remains high, we cannot afford to take cuts like this when so many are counting on us. We recently learned that it is uncertain whether we will receive 20-24 truckloads of food from USDA over the next four months. USDA food plays a critical role in our ability to meet the needs of the most vulnerable Delawareans - seniors, children, adults with disabilities and those who work but cannot make ends meet. Partnerships – like the one we have with Bayhealth – help create healthier communities. Thanks to generous neighbors who donated to the annual food drive, the month-long collection at Bayhealth sites culminated with a delivery of 1,022 pounds of shelf-stable food to our Milford facility. After it’s sorted, this food will be distributed through our Healthy Pantry Center to neighbors living with food insecurity.

Today is National Ag Day! Here at the Food Bank of Delaware we are grateful for the contributions of Delaware farmers, growers and producers. They make sure that we all have food on the table, especially our food insecure neighbors. We want to give a BIG SHOUT OUT to our own agricultural team, Kyle, John and Brendan! This team works hard year round growing fresh produce in both Newark and Milford for our neighbors and educating the community about where their food comes from! THANK YOU for your contributions to Delaware agriculture!

Anthony’s past doesn't define him—his determination does. When he joined our L.O.G.I.C. program, he found more than job skills—he found purpose, community, and a fresh start. Now working at Walmart and dreaming of bigger opportunities, Anthony is proof that change is possible. For him, the most valuable lesson he has learned so far is the power of connection. “Growing up, I never really had a bond, even though I had brothers and sisters” he explained. “The way I grew up is that we were never vulnerable to our emotions, so me going through this experience allowed me to be myself without being judged.
