Last Friday, the Fontaine Team had the honor of attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the new East Longmeadow High School & Natatorium! This event marked a pivotal moment for the town, highlighting its commitment to investing in its students' futures while creating a lasting source of pride for the community. We are honored to serve as the Construction Manager at Risk for the 191,796-square-foot high school and 16,405-square-foot Natatorium alongside our project partners: the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), Skanska, JONES WHITSETT ARCHITECTS, INC. and SMMA. We look forward to bringing this vision to life and creating a space where the students of East Longmeadow can learn and swim for generations to come!

This #NationalApprenticeshipWeek, we had the opportunity to participate in a career fair at Worcester East Middle School. The goal of the fair was to support students and families in developing a better understanding of the future academic and career opportunities available to their students. ? Our Director of Diversity, Elizabeth Wambui, attended the fair alongside North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters Rep Fred Taylor and representatives from 28 local and regional organizations. Thank you to the faculty and staff for inviting us to participate, and thank you to everyone who came to support all of the wonderful students! ? Events like this are key to inspiring young students and helping build a stronger, more diverse workforce—one that will shape the future of construction. #Students #ConstructionCareers

Today is #NationalWomenInApprenticeshipDay, a day dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the role women play in our industry. It’s also a day to highlight the importance of attracting more women into the trades and breaking down the barriers in this traditionally male-dominated field. In honor of this important day, we’re excited to share a video about our recent partnership with the National Association of Women in Construction, where we joined forces to host a Coffee & Conversation discussion. The event brought together women from all corners of the construction industry to connect, exchange ideas, and collaborate on creating a more inclusive and diverse environment that empowers women in the field. After the event, we spoke with some of the incredible women at Fontaine to hear about their journeys, their involvement in the event, and the advice they’d give to women looking to enter the construction industry. If you're thinking about joining the field, don’t be afraid to take the first step—let Elizabeth Wambui, Tracy Routhier, and Beth Paulson serve as proof that the trades are a place where women can grow, succeed, and build their future. #WomenInConstruction #EmpoweringWomen

The future in Worcester is bright! More than 100 engaging and enthusiastic South High 9th grade students humored me while I told stories of growing up here in Worcester, the times I spent at South as a high school student back in the day, and my journey through the construction industry. Their questions about and interest in the construction industry were off the charts! Thank you for the warm welcome. #WorcesterProud Rachel H. Monarrez, PhD Kelsey Lamoureux Elizabeth Wambui

Yesterday, as part of our #NationalApprenticeshipWeek celebrations, we attended the Massachusetts Girls in Trades Conference at Dean Technical High School in Holyoke! This inspiring event brought together high school women interested in construction careers with building trade unions, contractors, developers, government organizations and community groups, all showcasing the diverse career paths and opportunities available within the skilled trades. Since its launch in 2015, Massachusetts Girls in Trades has been empowering young women in career and technical education programs to step confidently into the trades and build a future they’re excited about. We had a blast connecting with so many talented young women and industry leaders—thank you to everyone who made this event such a success! #MassGirlsInTrades #WomenInTrades #FutureTradeswomen

This week, we’re celebrating #NationalApprenticeshipWeek, a week dedicated to showcasing how Registered Apprenticeship programs strengthen our economy, create career pathways, and advance equity in our communities. As our Vice President of CM Services, Mark Abdella, shared: “National Apprenticeship Week is a great opportunity to step back and recognize that we can’t lose focus on the important work of bringing more and more talented and diverse people into the industry. We are an industry that relies on the strength of its people. And developing the future workforce is critical to our success as a whole.” From inspiring young students with tours of our project sites, to supporting apprentices as they take their first steps into the industry, we’re committed to building a stronger, more diverse workforce- one that will shape the #FutureOfConstruction.?

On Wednesday, October 30th, members of the Fontaine team gathered alongside representatives from Walpole Public Schools, the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), The Vertex Companies LLC, and Tappé Architects to celebrate a major milestone: the ribbon-cutting of the new Walpole Middle School! ? This project has been a true celebration of teamwork and collaboration from start to finish. Together, we brought to life a 162,193-square-foot facility, merging two middle schools into one vibrant, modern space. From the groundbreaking ceremony in November 2022 to Wednesday’s ribbon-cutting, every step reflected the hard work and dedication of everyone involved, creating a welcoming new home for Walpole students and a source of pride for the entire community. We’re thrilled to have been part of such a transformative project!
