Had the opportunity to attend "Coffee and Conversation" at NeoCityFL yesterday featuring David Arnold, Director of the Florida Semiconductor Institute (FSI) at the University of Florida. The session was attended by key Osceola County leaders, including Commissioner Cheryl Grieb, County Manager Donald Fisher, Deputy County Manager Amanda Clavijo, Chief Operating Officer Beth Knight, and Economic Development Director Christina Morris, demonstrating strong local government support for semiconductor innovation. Dr. Arnold shared his fascinating journey from St. Cloud, FL, to leading FSI, including stories of childhood electronics projects that sparked his engineering career. The highlight was the official opening of FSI's offices at NeoCity, marking a significant step in establishing Central Florida as a semiconductor hub. What stood out was FSI's collaborative approach, working with universities across the state including UF, University of Central Florida, University of South Florida, Florida International University, and Florida Institute of Technology. The partnership with BRIDG was highlighted as our version of SEMATECH, bridging the gap between research and commercial manufacturing. Dr. Arnold emphasized practical innovation, noting "If you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together." The progress at NeoCity backs this up, from partnerships with imec and SkyWater Technology to securing $500 million in federal funding over the past 30 months. At Groundswell Startups, we are already exploring how our Prototype Lab can continue to contribute to this growing semiconductor ecosystem. The future of Florida's tech innovation is taking shape right here. If you are interested in learning more granular information about the event, check out my article here --> https://lnkd.in/eN4Y4jYg
