Equipment damages during loading and unloading procedures are one of the biggest money drains for asset-based #carriers, but few small companies have effective protocols in place for handling it. It may sound counterintuitive since they are the ones playing your services, but you definitely shouldn't expect a #freight broker or customer to pay for damages made by a shipper or receiver. While they may feel compassion for your situation, they have no liability for what happens with your equipment during transit, and trying to strongarm them to cover it will make you look unprofessional and potentially jeopardize your future collaboration. ?I often emphasize many situations where some (dishonest) brokers/customers don't reasonably pay carriers for accessorial charges but this is not one of them... You should still notify the broker/customer of what happened, but you should file a claim directly with a shipper/receiver that allegedly damaged your equipment. To do so effectively, you should have: 1) Current trailer inspection and drivers' training and protocols in place that should help you prove that damages were not there before they arrived at that particular location. Ideally, drivers should take pictures of loaded and empty trailers after every pickup and delivery. Some of the "fresh" damages are easy to distinguish from old ones. This also tremendously helps with potential #cargo claims and rejected trailers but it is not easy to enforce with all the drivers. Try to offer small incentives for drivers to comply with this and just one successfully processed damage claim or avoided cargo claim will justify the cost of it. 2) Make sure that the driver inspects/takes a photo of the trailer before he/she leaves any facility (easier said than done...) and make sure you notify them about damages before the driver leaves. This moment is difficult because many facilities and their dock workers will have prepared a story that "they didn't do it and it was already there". Facilities handling roll papers and recyclables are notorious for this. Many companies will have damage reports, their insurance forms, and a dedicated claims specialist. If they are not cooperative, you can try contacting the plant manager or even the corporate office. In rare cases, they may offer to pay the reasonable claim directly without the insurance involved. If everything fails, this is where a (good) broker/customer can help you by providing you with better lines of communication. It is not a straightforward process and many facilities will intentionally ignore you knowing many truckers have no knowledge, time, and resources to fight it but that shouldn't discourage you since they do have insurance policies specifically for those cases. A fully successful outcome is far from certain but better than doing nothing and just complaining...

In 2024, you can lose a business in #transportation for very trivial reasons but this one is a new one for me. If you have a "wrong" type of bolts on your trailer's doors, some customers will refuse to load you. I wasn't able to get an official explanation why, but I guess that some unauthorized consolidators are using this to tamper with the seal/door handle... So with the abundance of capacity in the #freight market right now, instead of sorting our bad carriers that do it, it was just easier to exclude all the equipment, and in our case, that is our whole fleet of 53' #dryvan trailers (2015-2022 #Utility). If anyone knows a simple way to resolve this/make the door more secure without re-bolting all the handles, please let me know.

In 2024, the paper bill of lading with inaccurate information and handwritten corrections is still the reality for the high percentage of the truckload operations in the USA. There are still customers that even require ORIGINAL paperwork for the payment. Especially during current #freight market #recession, we are constantly looking to eliminate (small) inefficiencies while arguably the biggest one is daily slipping trough our hands. As an example, even our regular load (that we did hundreds of times) became a nightmare with the wrong delivery info, loaded with expired food product and label inside sealed trailer that didn't match BOL. Our driver or shipper mixed up the paperwork on the pickup and it is not clear who did it since we picked up multiple similar loads that day. You can argue that if they were more diligent, this wouldn't happen no matter what technology they used but when errors happen, it shouldn't take us 2 days, 34 emails, 10+ phone calls, 5+ pictures of BOL, freight and labels to figure out what happened... #transportation #logistics

FOKA LOGISTICS INC looking for reliable CDL Class A Owner-Operators (2 years experience minimum) and small fleet owners.? WE DO NOT OFFER LEASE PURCHASE OR SIMILAR PROGRAMS! We are a USA-based (no overseas "dispatch services") family-owned and operated business that is expanding and experiencing increased demand for our services (while the freight market is down!). We offer long-term opportunities for the right people (we have been in business for 10+ years). Well-maintained 53 van trailers are available for rent if necessary (2018 and newer), but owner-operators with their van trailer are more than welcome (if less than 10 years old and in good condition). We also have in-house truck repair and maintenance at our sister company Blue Island Truck Repair where our owner-operators are more than welcome. If you plan to expand your small fleet, our sister company Top Truck Sales LLC can offer you used equipment and financing help. We provide 24/7 on-call support available, home time on request, and absolutely no forced dispatch! Any asset carrier taking 8% quick-pay (like 6% was not high enough!) could easily go out of business... ...in 2021. In early 2024? I doubt many legit asset carriers have an 8% net margin so they can spend everything on cash advance. Even the highest freight bill factoring rates look like free money compared to that. You could probably get better "loan" terms from your local crime syndicate as well. ?I wish I could see their other financial decisions. The freight market is in terrible shape but there are still so many companies with questionable business practices, somehow staying afloat. #goodbusiness #smallbusiness #transportation

Can you detect #ai generated content? Is it more irritating to you than poorly written text with grammatical and structural errors? As a non-native English speaker working in transportation/logistics, surrounded professionally and personally by people from all over the world, I believe I have a high tolerance for written and verbal errors. As long as communication is clear, it doesn't bother me at all. But fully #chatgpt created content is becoming unreadable for me. I am not sure how these AI Content Detectors are accurate (and Grammarly can be a great tool) but I checked a few "creators" that are very difficult for me to read and the vast majority of their postings are marked as "AI Content Detected". I hope that the algorithm will further evolve and that after initial over-saturation, it will be used more for technical writing, not "original" content.
