Welcome! Tidal Medical , which is working on a smart incentive spirometry device to help improve adherence to respiratory therapy in post-surgical patients, has joined Fogarty’s Company Accelerator Program (CAP). The company is led by CEO Mehdi Arani, a medtech veteran who co-founded the company with Farid Farahmand, PhD, an electrical engineering professor at Sonoma State University, visiting faculty at Berkeley Lab, and Tidal Medical’s CTO.? ? The incentive spirometer is a hand-held device that exercises the lungs by helping users take slow deep breaths. After surgery, patients are asked to use the device up to 10x per hour to help improve breathing and prevent lung infections. However, research shows that adherence is generally poor. Tidal Medical is working to remedy this with a smart device that reminds patients and tracks performance and outcomes data.? ? The company has joined Fogarty with the goal of advancing its commercialization plans and gaining early user feedback from clinicians at Fogarty partner El Camino Health.
