What an incredible night! Last week, we came together as a team to share stories, celebrate our 2024 accomplishments, and honor the amazing team members that make our company stronger every day. A special thank you to JP Dinnell from Echelon Front for sharing the leadership lessons he learned on the battlefield. His powerful guidance left us inspired and empowered to lead our teams with purpose and determination. We’re also thrilled to share that, thanks to everyone’s generosity, we raised an incredible $8,600 through our silent auction for the International Rett Syndrome Foundation. The Millwright Regional Council (MRC), in partnership with Build a Dream, CMF Group Inc., Sylvan, Inc., Ontario Power Generation, and UHC - Hub of Opportunities is proud to announce the launch of the UBC Millwright Local 1244 Windsor and Local 1007 Niagara Falls Introduction to Millwrighting (ITM) program on October 7, 2024! Following successful programs in Toronto and Sarnia, this ITM series opens new doors to the skilled trades for women, Indigenous peoples, and underrepresented communities, offering a pathway to apprenticeships and careers built on excellence. A special thanks to MPP Lisa Gretzky , Windsor West for speaking with our ITM candidates today. Join us in celebrating this exciting new chapter for the MRC and the UBC Millwrights.

On September 19th, 350+ construction industry professionals came together from 125 companies for the 20th Annual Building Connections Networking Event at The War Memorial in Grosse Pointe Farms. ?? Intern Spotlight: Nicholas Lanfear ?? Nicholas joined Sylvan as a summer intern, gaining hands-on experience across multiple departments. He is now continuing to work part-time while completing his studies! In his own words, Nicholas reflects on his internship experience: "My internship at Sylvan allowed me to gain comprehensive experience by rotating through various departments. In Estimating, I assisted with job takeoffs, fixture counts, and vendor relations, working closely with the estimators. I also had the opportunity to shadow Project Managers, where I learned about managing on-site challenges, effective client communication, and the critical importance of safety. My internship concluded in Service/Sales, where I collaborated closely with Sylvan’s service account managers. This experience deepened my understanding of HVAC systems and the importance of maintaining relationships with both existing and new customers. A highlight of my internship was being involved in Project Maverick, a large-scale warehouse project in the Southwest. Working alongside Sylvan’s plumbing estimator, Tommy Ingham, was especially rewarding as we met the bid submission deadline with dedication and teamwork. Overall, this internship has given me a broad perspective on the construction industry and equipped me with valuable skills for my future career." Today, on 9/11, Sylvan proudly joined thousands across the nation in honoring the heroes and remembering the lives affected by the 9/11 attacks. Together with volunteers, veterans, and first responders, we helped pack millions of meals to support those facing food insecurity. These meals will be donated to and distributed by local Feeding America-affiliated food banks during Hunger Action Month in September. As we reflect on the spirit of unity and service that emerged after 9/11, we are reminded of the strength in coming together to make a difference.
