Peer Support, Individual Advocacy & Systemic Change for survivors of abuse from Mental health or AOD facilities in WA.
关于我们
Flying Free was created by survivors, for survivors. We pride ourselves on being guided by individuals with a lived experience of mistreatment and abuse from mental health and AOD providers. Due to the recent expose of the Esther Foundation, a light has been shed on the extent of harm taking place in West Australian mental health and alcohol and other drug treatment providers. With an unknown number of unregulated health providers treating the most vulnerable in our community, we are seeking understand the extend of this problem. We plan to expand our peer-support for survivors, continue our systemic advocacy and provide individual advocacy assistance.

January 26th is not a day to celebrate. It marks the invasion of Aboriginal people's land, culture and bodies.? Australia always was and always will be Aboriginal land. Aboriginal people have continually been harmed by our mental health and alcohol and other drug treatments. We support the need for culturally appropriate mental health and addiction healing on country.

Flying Free (previously Freedom from Institutional Abuse) is hosting our 2023 AGM and holding elections for our committees. We are looking for a range of skills and experience (including lived experience). We have received an incredible amount of support from the community services sector, but we now need individuals willing to help us achieve our goals. We really need people so please nominate yourself or share with others who may be interested. If you can't join one of our committee's, but would still like to support us please become a member. Both forms are linked at the bottom of this post. Who are we? Flying Free was founded by three survivors of the Esther Foundation, after the WA Parliamentary Inquiry into the Esther Foundation and other unregulated private health facilities exposed the systemic failures, injustice, and ongoing trauma of the WA community. Our mission is to reform Australia's Mental health and Alcohol and other Drug (AOD) treatment services. We believe that comprehensive regulations are needed to ensure Australians seeking treatment for mental health or harmful substance use are provided with evidence-based care and dignity. We believe effective change can only come by using lived experience voices. Our aim is to achieve systemic change through supporting, empowering, and educating consumers. Supporting them to share their lived experiences, heal from mistreatment, seek justice, and understand their consumer rights.
