We wanted to send a quick shout-out to Ellie Oberink! Ellie joined Tim Forrester and Lisa Vickers in our Coastal Resources Division in late 2023 and quickly became an integral part of the team supporting dock rehabs, marina installations, and shorefront restoration and stabilization projects up and down the Maine coast. Most recently Ellie successfully represented a client needing a dock permit from the Planning Board in Boothbay. Way to go Ellie, Flycatcher LLC and our clients are wicked happy to have you on board!

Flycatcher managing partner and senior scientist Rodney Kelshaw(CWB/CPSS/PWS/CPESC/CESSWI/LSE/LSS) has passed the exam to receive his Certified Erosion, Sediment and StormWater Inspector (CESSWI) certification. This means he is qualified to perform inspections on construction projects beyond Maine's borders. Flycatcher LLC's team was contracted to clear a new solar project in southwestern Maine and the site visit today confirmed that the sun shines here! This approximately 14-acre site is part of a heavily cut-over forest with an understory dominated by invasive plants (bittersweet, autumn olive, barberry (ouch!), multiflora rose (double ouch!), and honeysuckle). The woody materials will be chipped and brought to biomass boilers in the region. Next comes sediment/erosion controls, grading, access road installation, winter seed & mulch, and then on to project construction. The project area will be permanently stabilized with native meadow species (grasses, wildflowers, legumes, etc.). Solar maintenance, including mowing up to twice a year, will help control the invasive plants from reestablishing while the site generates clean solar power for the Maine electricity grid. #solarpower #maine #scarredbyrosamultiflora
