Flux Studio is a transdisciplinary practice engaged in an investigation of the medium of light and its relationship to our perception of space. This pursuit results in work that spans conventional disciplines of art, design, engineering and research. We are committed to delivering high quality results that address the ethics and aesthetics of a contemporary design practice while considering the needs of building occupants, property owners, and the broader social context. Our team is fueled by a passion for light and a commitment to advancing understanding of light’s critical role in society. We believe each of our projects provides a unique opportunity for the integration of light. We uncover this potential though careful analysis of the intention of our fellow team members, the visual needs of users, and project constraints. We understand that great ideas require perseverance and commitment if they are to become great results. Above all, we value and strive to realize the full potential of creative cooperation. Just as human visual perception of light relies on interaction with materials, successful lighting design cannot be achieved without effective collaboration. We combine an advanced understanding of light that resulted from experience with openness to new discoveries. We have developed a range of techniques for communicating lighting issues with the clarity required to support understanding and consensus across the project team.

We’re excited to be collaborating on this exciting project!
After topping out earlier this summer, construction on Calder Gardens continues with the installation of interior systems such as mechanical, electrical, and plumbing, along with the completion of the remaining sections of the Vestige Garden walls. This will be followed by work on the building enclosure. Once complete, Calder Gardens will offer Philadelphians a new kind of place to experience art. The project carves into the ground rather than building volumes above, creating a sequence of varied galleries, unexpected spaces, niches, and gardens that offers rich potential to display and view Calder’s multifaceted work in unexpected ways. The Galápagos Islands exhibit at the Houston Zoo has earned top honors in both the Exhibition and Media Excellence categories from the Association for Zoos & Aquariums! This recognition is a testament to the hard work and creativity that went into realizing this extraordinary project for the Houston Zoo. ? ? The Galápagos Islands exhibit offers an immersive experience into the unique biodiversity and stunning landscapes of the Galápagos archipelago. Featuring a 190,000-gallon One Ocean aquarium and a 40-foot-long underwater acrylic sea lion tunnel, visitors can enjoy close encounters with aquatic life, including Humboldt penguins which represent the Galápagos penguins, endemic to the Galápagos Islands—one of the smallest penguins in the world. This captivating exhibit showcases the wonders of the Galápagos Islands' unique species and ecosystems while emphasizing the urgent need for conservation, making it a vital educational platform.? ? With locations in Baltimore / Washington and New York City, we are seeking designers to join our inspired and growing firm. Projects include world-class museums, commercial offices, hotel and restaurant hospitality, residential and light art. We offer a remote work model with focused efforts in the physical office for design collaborations and lighting mock-ups. Coupled with a suite of online collaboration tools, this type of organization allows our team to react to project needs quickly and effectively for the benefit of both the design staff and our clients.
