Did you know? Feeding America’s “Map the Meal Gap” report reveals that a significant portion of Southern Indiana’s population struggles with food insecurity. This underscores the critical need for initiatives like the Arts Alliance Culinary Kitchen, which will provide vital access to healthy food, culinary education, and support for our most vulnerable neighbors. This grant will fund essential medical equipment and staff training for VOA's Supportive Living Homes, which serve 27 individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities in Clark & Floyd County. These homes provide around-the-clock medical oversight, totaling 8,760 hours annually, ensuring the well-being and safety of residents. VOA's Supportive Living Homes offer professional care, healthcare coordination, and a safe, nurturing environment for individuals with I/DD. ?? We’re thrilled to announce that the Floyd Memorial Foundation has awarded $9,999 to Purdue University for the "Food is Medicine Floyd County" program! ?? This 12-week program focuses on diabetes and heart disease prevention through education on meal planning, mindful eating, and food budgeting. Participants will enjoy meal demos and receive groceries to make the recipes at home. Additionally, personalized incentive items, such as kitchen appliances and fitness trackers, will be provided to support healthy changes. Created in response to the Baptist Health Floyd 2022-2024 Community Needs Assessment, this initiative addresses critical health issues in Floyd County, including high rates of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. We’re excited to share that the Floyd Memorial Foundation has awarded $20,320 to Parenting with Purpose! Parenting with Purpose empowers young moms (ages 13-23) in Floyd County by pairing them with mentors, providing community support groups, and coaching them on essential life skills. This grant will fund parenting classes and mentoring programs for one year, ensuring these moms receive the support they need. With only 32% of teen moms becoming financially independent and significantly higher rates of depression among them, this support is crucial. Parenting with Purpose aims to break the cycle of generational teen parenting, poverty, and poor outcomes by guiding single moms towards healthy relationships, promoting education and job training, and fostering a supportive community. ?? We’re excited to share that the Floyd Memorial Foundation has awarded $14,000 to Our Place Drug and Alcohol Education Services for their Raising Our Children's Kids (ROCK) program! ?? The ROCK program supports grandparents and other relatives who unexpectedly step in to raise children due to substance use issues. This grant will fund a program coordinator to manage advertising, recruitment, and support for these families. With over 900 grandparents in Indiana raising their grandchildren and many others in similar situations, this support is crucial. Schools have highlighted the need for resources to address the mental health needs of these children and the challenges faced by their caregivers. We are thrilled to announce that the Floyd Memorial Foundation has awarded Operation Parent $7,770 to cover the cost of 400 parent resource handbooks for consultations and distribution to parents in Southern Indiana! Operation Parent is dedicated to preventing teen addiction, suicide, violence, and more by providing parents with exceptional prevention education. Their parent handbooks address 25 of today’s toughest parenting challenges, including anxiety, bullying, social media, vaping, marijuana, and more. These handbooks are designed to bridge the gap between the world parents grew up in and the world their kids are growing up in today, helping parents to "keep up" so they can "speak up" and have meaningful conversations with their children.
