We've seen an uptick in #LGBTQ+ youth seeking peer support at Peers.net by Flourish Labs since the election, via our partnerships with The Trevor Project and OutCare Health. 60% of our peers identify as LGBTQ+, we have queer company leaders like Erika Rowen, and we're here for you if you're feeling anxious. I'm grateful we can do our small bit to provide support, but there is something fundamentally wrong here. Identifying LGBTQ+ shouldn't lead to anxiety. That's a society problem, not a person problem.

If you had asked me a few years ago what a Peer Supporter was, I wouldn’t have known. I certainly didn’t imagine I’d become one myself. But sometimes, the most unexpected opportunities align with your purpose in ways you couldn’t have planned. This role came into my life during my journey of unmasking and embracing my identity as a queer, late-identified autistic-ADHDer with disabilities and mental health challenges. What started as sharing my lived experiences and stories to help others has evolved into something much bigger—a meaningful way to walk alongside people navigating their own paths. Peer support is about connection. It’s not about solving someone’s problems but creating a space where they feel seen, heard, and validated. Through storytelling, empathy, and shared experiences, I’ve found a way to make a difference while continuing my own growth. Looking back on this year, I’m proud of what I’ve been able to contribute: ?? Supported 8 unique seekers and fulfilled 11 one-on-one sessions. ?? Attended 10 co-supervision sessions to refine my skills and ensure thoughtful support. ?? Engaged in 7 meaningful message threads and chats that mattered. A huge thank you to Peers.net by Flourish Labs for this opportunity, wrapup, and for leading a movement to make mental health support more accessible through peer support. This role didn’t just happen—it’s a gig I picked up along the way as I leaned into the power of sharing my story. It’s proof that embracing your authenticity and unmasking can open doors you didn’t even know existed. Being a Peer Supporter isn’t just a job for me—it’s a way to connect, empower, and uplift others while advocating for visibility and representation in mental health spaces. I’m proud to be part of this movement to reshape how we approach mental health, one connection at a time. Here’s to continuing this journey and making an impact, together. #MentalHealthMatters #PeerSupport #Storytelling #Neurodiversity #DisabilityAdvocacy #FlourishLabs #PeersNet #Authenticity #HealingThroughConnection #AccessibilityMatters

So excited to be collaborating with Greg Hajcak again, this will be our third study together! I first met when Greg was the PI on a study for the neuroscience project I led at X. We both pivoted our careers away from brain science towards more applied mental health care. He's the co-PI on a randomized control trial assessing our Peers.net by Flourish Labs telehealth-delivered peer support led by Keanan Joyner at University of California, Berkeley. And now we'll be doing a super exciting project together, combining digital therapeutics and human-delivered peer support to support #LGBTQ+ youth. Can't wait! More info on the study here: https://lnkd.in/gHzZsneA
Santa Clara University’s Greg Hajcak, the Sheri Sobrato Professor of Child and Adolescent Mental Health, has been awarded a prestigious three-year, $3 million grant from the State of California to tackle an escalating youth mental health crisis, with a particular focus on depression among LGBTQ+ youth. Administered by the California Initiative to Advance Precision Medicine (CIAPM) and housed within the California Health & Human Services Agency (CalHHS), Hajcak’s project responds to alarming statistics in the 2021 National Survey on Drug Use and Health. “Addressing the mental health needs of LGBTQ+ youth is not just important—it's imperative,” said Hajcak. “Our work aims to give them the tools and support they need to build resilience, reduce negative emotions, and increase positive experiences." The awesome team at Rock Health just launched a digital youth mental health initiative, in collaboration with Pivotal Ventures,?PENNER FAMILY FOUNDATION, Hopelab, and the?Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation. https://lnkd.in/eT5m4HbA Their report on the digital youth mental health investment landscape is worth a read, and I was proud to see Flourish Labs featured in it :) If you are going to the Rock Health Summit next week, I look forward to seeing you there.
