ASCE 24 is a critical standard referenced by building codes and FEMA for designing structures in flood hazard areas. The 2024 edition includes important updates to enhance resilience, improve design requirements, and align with the latest research and best practices in flood-resistant construction. Evaluation and Repair of Existing Post-Tensioned Structures Overview: Purpose: To introduce evaluation and repair of existing post-tensioned concrete structures with unbonded single-strand tendons, including a brief historical perspective of various types of post-tensioning systems. Discuss field investigation/nondestructive evaluation methods, exploratory evaluation, laboratory testing and analysis, structural analysis, and preparation of evaluation report. A general introduction to the repair of unbonded post-tensioned concrete structures for typical conditions will be discussed with case-study examples. Learning Objectives: 1. Explain structural system comprising unbonded post-tensioning (PT), 2. Discuss procedures to perform evaluation of existing PT structures, 3. Documentation About the Presenter Dr. Siva Munuswamy is a Senior Vice-President, with PTE Systems International, Florida. As subject matter expert in post-tensioned (PT) concrete, designed, and peer reviewed numerous high-rise PT structures, evaluated, and investigated structural failures and developed and implemented remediation specification. He performed many forensic investigations and testified as an expert witness. He has been involved in technical committees with American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Post-Tensioning Institute (PTI),and American Concrete Institute (ACI). He has published numerous refereed journal articles and presented at various organizations at various global venues. As an Adjunct Professor at Florida Atlantic University, Dr. Munuswamy teaches Reinforced Concrete Design. He has a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering from Bharathiar University, India and earned a Doctoral degree in Ocean Engineering from Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Boca Raton. He has been serving the civil and structural engineering industry for over 40 years. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Florida.
