Florida Supply Chain Summit
This week, I attended a Supply Chain conference covering major American SCM issues and in particular the state of Florida!!
What cames out:
1) Miami Airport is the largest cargo airport in the US with an announcement of the construction of the first 4-story warehouse, which will cover: 1.4 million pica;
2) The aerospace industry (MRO, construction, space, etc.) will represent $1.1 Trillion in revenue in 2030 with 172 major investment projects in progress;
3) The cruise industry has picked up its pace and represents several tens of millions of travelers annually and billions in revenue. The local suppliers and Florida economy greatly benefits from the economic benefits of this industry;
4) The US microchip manufacturing industry is undergoing transformation but China and adjacent countries will still account for more than 75% of market supply in 2030;
5) Hundreds of nearshoring projects are underway and Mexico is in the lead with billions of dollars in investment. Be careful of Chinese companies that position themselves in these markets. Florida suffers in this area for reasons of responsiveness, available land (water and electricity) and political will;
6) Florida's ports industry has identified several major challenges that will influence their growth: geopolitical instability, AI impact, regulation, circular economy, security risks, climate change and local sourcing;
7) A presentation by a VP of Supply from Carnival Cruise Line (1st carrier in this sector) was particularly interesting. Some figures: 90 ships, making 22,000 port stops in more than 800 destinations per year, 160,000 employees from 150 countries transporting more than 12.5 million passengers per year;
8) In closing, the state of Florida is the 15th largest economy in the world (23 million population and a growth of 1000 people per day) if it were a country. It aims to be the tenth largest economy in 2030;
In short, two days of presentations, discussions, meetings and sharing of ideas, opinions and experience. Well done to the organizers!!
