Dedicated to the prevention of juvenile delinquency and the development of lawful, productive citizens, FSA has established and funded the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches with facilities throughout the state to help restore hope, fulfill dreams, and prepare children for the future. It has grown to be one of the largest and most successful state law enforcement associations in the nation.

  • This week the Florida Sheriffs Association hosted the Police Executive Research Forum’s (PERF) Integrating Communications, Assessment, and Tactics (ICAT) trainer the trainer class.??ICAT takes the essential building blocks of critical thinking, crisis intervention, communications, and tactics, and puts them together in an integrated approach to training. ICAT is anchored by a Critical Decision-Making Model that helps officers assess situations, make safe and effective decisions, and document and learn from their actions.? The goal of ICAT is to enhance both officer safety and public safety, by providing police officers with more tools, skills, and options for handling different types of critical incidents, especially those that involve subjects who are acting erratically because of mental illness or behavioral crisis and who are unarmed or armed with a weapon other than a firearm. The attendees of this training will have the skillset to teach this program to the members of their agency to include proper de-escalation techniques.??
