Today, we honor the generations of Americans who have put their lives on the line for our country, the veterans who liberated Jews from concentration camps during World War II, and those who have served to protect the freedoms we hold dear. #VeteransDay #Liberators #FloridaHolocaustMuseum

Join us this Sunday, November 10 at 2:00 pm for our annual Kristallnacht Commemoration at Congregation Beth Shalom in Clearwater. Our speaker is Sheryl Ochayon of the International Institute for Holocaust Education at Yad Vashem, Israel’s World Holocaust Remembrance Center. “This is certainly one of the harder days on the calendar, but that makes remembering it all the more important,” she said. “As some downplay today’s historically high levels of antisemitism, we need the reminder of what can happen when we let ugly emotions and hatred fester.” Space is limited. Sign up today for this free program here: https://lnkd.in/ega9uRXa

Join us on November 10 at 2 pm for our annual Kristallnacht Commemoration at Congregation Beth Shalom in Clearwater. The event begins with a short service of prayer and song from Rabbi David Weizman, followed by a special candle lighting by Holocaust Survivors, 2Gs, 3Gs and concluding with a lecture from keynote speaker Sheryl Ochayon, the Echoes & Reflections Project Director for Yad Vashem’s International Institute for Holocaust Education. Kristallnacht owes its name to the shards of shattered glass from broken windows that lined German streets on November 9-10 in 1938. Throughout the night, thousands of Jewish-owned businesses, homes, and synagogues were ransacked and destroyed in a coordinated series of attacks throughout Germany. This was the first widespread use of massive force against Jews by the Nazi regime and figures as an essential turning point in Nazi Germany. Register here: https://lnkd.in/e2fpNj2N

Today is the sixth anniversary of the abhorrent shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh. This was the deadliest attack on the Jewish community in United States history. The irony of a building whose name includes the word "life" being the site of so much death does not go unnoticed. And with the number of antisemitic incidents in the U.S. on the rise, we still have a lot of work to do. We grieve for the 11 victims and their families who experienced such tragedy and hope that with the power of education, we can instill a better tomorrow.
