Securing Florida's Future

关于我们

For nearly a century, the Florida Chamber of Commerce has fought for free enterprise and worked to secure Florida’s future. Through research, advocacy and leadership, the Florida Chamber Foundation, the Florida Chamber of Commerce and the Florida Chamber Political Operations work together to help make our vision of Florida’s future a reality. This vision led to the development of a long-term strategic plan for Florida, also known as the Six Pillars? 20-year Strategic Plan. As we faced the closing years of the last decade, Florida’s economy was clearly changing and the politics of Florida were calling for the business community to unite. Despite temporary loss in population growth, it was clear Florida would be facing an expanded population between five and seven million more residents by the year 2030. We must do a better job planning for the next seven million Floridians than we did for the last seven million.

  • Child care costs are the #1 reason why working parents in Florida with children under six years old quit their jobs. Ensuring Florida’s working families have access to affordable, quality child care is essential to bolstering our #workforce and strengthening Florida’s #economy. The Florida Chamber Foundation’s policy research report,?"School Readiness in Florida: How We Can Close the Gaps", examines the case for State Median Income in Child Care Tuition Assistance Eligibility. This change will ensure that more Florida families can access the early childhood #education they need. Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eTADTSPj Key findings include: ?? 281,621 Floridians reported not working in the past year to take care of a child, exacerbating the state’s #talent shortage. ?? Shifting eligibility from Federal Poverty Level to State Median Income would ensure families earning slightly above the Federal Poverty Level, but still facing financial challenges, have access to child care assistance. ?? By shifting to State Median Income as the eligibility threshold, we can provide essential support for families, help reduce childhood #poverty, and set Florida’s children on the path to success. Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eTADTSPj Thanks to Molly Grant, Executive Director, Association of Early Learning Coalitions, and The Honorable Fiona McFarland, Florida House of Representatives, for lending perspectives to this report. • Florida's students are falling behind in math. The Florida Chamber Foundation’s latest report,?Math Matters: Bridging Gaps for Florida’s Future Workforce,?underscores the urgent need to improve math proficiency across Florida’s schools to better prepare students for success and meet future workforce needs. Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/euZe2EPc Key findings include: ?? Over 128,600 Florida students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade tested “not proficient” in math during the 2023-24 school year. ?? Chronic absenteeism is linked to lower math proficiency. ?? Rural schools could be targeted for additional support. #Rural school districts comprise 46% of all Florida school districts but represent 71% of the bottom quartile districts in math proficiency. ?? A 10 percentage point increase in math proficiency could help 27,000 additional 8th graders enter high school with strong math skills each year. ?? Businesses can get involved by providing resources for early math interventions programs, #mentoring, and #internships to ensure students are not falling behind. Access the full report: https://lnkd.in/euZe2EPc A special thanks to the Florida Chamber Foundation’s Community Development Partnership Council for driving this research and our mission forward. To support the Florida Chamber Foundation’s ongoing efforts to generate action-oriented research to advance progress towards our Florida 2030 Blueprint goals, please contact Keith Richard, Ph.D.
