The Florence County Economic Development Partnership opened its doors on January 1, 1999. this private-public venture was conceived by Florence County Council and a private business organization known as Florence County Progress, Inc. this alliance is exemplified through the 30 member Partnership Board with members appoint by County Council and elected by members of Florence County Progress. Thus, both parties work as a team to enhance the county's economic development. the Partnership works to recruit new business and industry to the area while helping existing industry grow and expand. Florence County Progress, Inc. (Progress) is the private sector arm of the Florence County Economic Development Partnership (Partnership). Progress was created in the 1980's by business leaders throughout the county to provide private sector support and leadership to our publicly funded economic development program. Huge congratulations to Leon Burgess, Director of College & Career Readiness and CTE for Florence County School District Three, for winning the 2024 South Carolina Association for Career and Technical Education Administrator of the Year Award! Mr. Burgess has been with Florence County School District 3 for a total of 18 years. He served as the Assistant Principal of Ronald E. McNair Middle School, Director of Secondary Education, and CTE Director at Lake City High School. He worked with the Harbor Freight Fellows program for the past 4 years and was recently awarded the Innovator of the Year award for programs implemented to increase interest in the skilled trades. We are thankful for his dedication to his profession and his students!
