??Meet Marie?? For over 30 years, Marie has been a dedicated tufting machine operator and technician in Tunnel Hill, GA, pouring her heart into the flooring industry. But in April 2023, everything changed with a breast cancer diagnosis that shook her to her core. “I went from working over 40 hours a week to not being able to work at all,” she shared, the weight of those words heavy on her heart. "Not being able to provide for my family was beyond stressful." As she faced the challenges of treatment, the financial strain became overwhelming. Bills piled up, and the stability she once knew was replaced by uncertainty and fear. Desperate for relief, Marie reached out for help, and her application for a grant from the Flooring Community Initiative Fund (FCIF) became her beacon of hope. When she received the approval, it felt like a lifeline. The grant covered her mortgage, utilities, transportation, and medical expenses, allowing her to focus on healing instead of financial worries. “This foundation has been a pillar of hope in my darkest times,” Marie said, her eyes glistening with emotion. “It’s truly a blessing that they are here for people in need.” Marie’s journey is a powerful testament to resilience and the incredible impact of community support. With heartfelt gratitude, she adds, “May God bless the donors tenfold.” Her story reminds us of the strength of the human spirit and how we can lift each other up in life’s toughest battles. ?? [New York] FCW had the pleasure of attending the Floor Covering Industry Foundation (FCIF) gala on October 5th at Gotham Hall here in Manhattan. The event was attended by over 200 flooring industry professionals, honoring the lifetime achievements of Dan Frierson, Roger Marcus and Sy Cohen. "We're here to honor three very deserving gentlemen for all the work and the life of work, really, that they've committed to our industry," FCIF chair Charlie Dilks said of the FCIF's honorees before turning his focus on the generosity of donors and attendees. "It's not uncommon anymore to have an installer in California apply for a grant, or a salesperson in St. Louis or an administrative person in Philadelphia, and that really means so much to the foundation. The foundation is really, from a financial point of view, in great shape and we're actually looking for people that need help," he continued. The legacy of C. R. Goulet! At our fifth annual FCIF banquet in 1985, we were proud to honor Goulet, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Bigelow-Sanford, Inc., as well as a member of FCIF’s Board of Directors. Goulet’s career spans decades of leadership and innovation, from his early days as national sales manager at Harding Carpets in Canada to his instrumental role in the founding of Bigelow-Canada, and later as president of Bigelow-Sanford in South Carolina. Beyond his corporate success, Goulet was a dedicated advocate for the floor covering community, serving on the boards of The Carpet and Rug Institute and FCIF. His commitment to service and excellence continues to inspire leaders today. Join us in celebrating the leaders who make our industry thrive!
