National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA)'s Miami International Boat Show took place this past week and has always been an awe-inspiring showcase of wealth.
Beyond that spectacle, there’s a growing wave of concrete, observable, and already adopted innovation happening in maritime. As we've alluded to at The Floating Economy?, technology trends are colliding in ways that make innovations—once considered science fiction—a reality.
Albeit cliche, a constant topic of my discussions: embracing change.
Boaters (across Florida, in particular):
? Value convenience & safety, but many are hesitant to give up control of their boats.
? Recognize that waterway conservation directly benefits their recreational activities (fishing, tubing, swimming, etc.), yet view “climate change” as a deeply politicized phrase.
? Appreciate the rising equity in their waterfront homes but remain uncertain about sea-level rise, land sink, or the combination of both impacting their real estate (and their ability to insure it).
At The Floating Economy?, we believe all of this matters—the facts, the public’s perceptions, and the innovations that can bridge the gap between the two.
Oh and maybe the most mind blowing takeaway: Informa Markets somehow organized 100,000+ people over 5 days around 1,000+ brands and 1,000+ boats to apparently create close to $1 billion in economic impact (correct my math, but that's about 11 Taylor Swift concerts).
