RMI Study Highlights: Electric Vehicles Cut Fleet Operating Costs by 9% ?? A recent analysis by RMI, featured in CleanTechnica, reveals that fleet operators can save an average of 9% on operating costs by transitioning to electric vehicles (EVs) compared to their fossil fuel counterparts. This insight is particularly timely as fleets navigate fluctuating fuel prices and rising operational costs. Using the Dashboard for Rapid Vehicle Electrification developed by Atlas Public Policy and the Electrification Coalition, the study emphasizes that EVs significantly lower fuel and maintenance expenses while eliminating 100% of tailpipe emissions. By examining factors such as charging infrastructure costs and vehicle turnover rates, fleet managers can make informed decisions tailored to their unique operational needs. The City of Tumwater is advancing its fleet electrification efforts with the installation of 10 new EV chargers. The city recently approved a contract with Sare Electric Inc to get these chargers up and running, supporting its transition to electric vehicles. Key details: Contract approval: City Council approved an $89,458 contract with Sare Electric on Oct. 15 for 10 new chargers. Funding: $78,000 comes from a grant by the Washington State Department of Commerce, with the remaining costs reimbursed through the IRS. Charger locations: The new chargers will be installed at City Hall, the police department, two fire stations, and Old Town Center. Electrification goals: Tumwater plans to electrify up to 69% of its fleet by 2030, reducing gasoline consumption by over 70%. Congratulations to Tumwater for making strides in fleet electrification!
