FlipFlop made its way down south yesterday! Ellerie Anderson of the FlipFlop team tabled on campus, sharing FlipFlop in exchange for an energizing and refreshing CELSIUS at the University of South Carolina. Our intern team is crushing it - user downloads have been continually increasing (over 200 accounts made this past weekend) and engagement within the platform has grown??

WHY WHY WHY??? ?? Why is this still a thing? Universities often rely on traditional communication methods that don't align with students' preferences. This was taken at my campus about a month ago. A recent survey found that 60% of students want an events calendar integrated into a campus app, suggesting a preference for centralized, digital platforms to stay informed. {Insidehighered} What about Uni Emails?? - Students receive numerous emails daily, causing important announcements about campus events to get lost or overlooked. We've had countless chats with our uni friends about school event emails, and the response is usually the same: "It feels like spam" or "I never check my email dude." Lastly, universities need data analytics to send targeted event invitations based on student interests and past participation. BUT they don't have the data.... until now. Time to ditch the billboard- Let us help.

From Inbox to Irrelevant: Why University Communication Is Failing ?? Universities often struggle to effectively engage with their student bodies Traditional communication methods- like mass emails, frequently go unread. A study by EAB revealed that more than half of students admitted they "don't always read emails from the institution or academic departments." This disconnect is further amplified by the evolving communication preferences of Gen Z. Growing up in a digitally connected world, they often prefer text and instant messaging for their convenience and ability to facilitate quick, seamless decision making ?? executive.berkeley.edu So... What if universities could integrate their communications into a platform where students already spend their time? What if institutions could harness real-time data to tailor their outreach, ensuring messages are not only received but also resonate with student interests? By reimagining communication strategies, universities can foster deeper connections and make more informed decisions around student engagement. Nick Cicero Scott Gillespie John L.

A high school classroom ran an experiment tracking phone notifications students received during a 30-minute period ?? Students averaged 20 notifications each. Instagram and Snapchat dominated (46% combined), followed by text messages (35%) ?? The top 20% accounted for 75% of all notifications ?? Girls were slightly more likely to be heavy notification recipients, but differences by gender were modest ?? At least 4% of all notifications were directly attributable to school apps, with the school’s gradebook app as the biggest offender ?? Social media and messaging app usage varied widely but was not strongly correlated with academic achievement ?? Students generally opposed banning phones entirely, viewing disinterest in school as more dependent on teaching quality and personal engagement https://lnkd.in/gbF3zu7V
