Flint Campfire Sessions have been taking off recently! ?? ~160 registrations for our math session tomorrow, and ~45 for our product update overview on Tuesday! Every week during the school year, we host a virtual session to bring together educators using Flint from across the world. Each session has a theme -- whether it be showcasing use cases in a specific subject area or bringing together admins to discuss strategies for improving tech adoption in their communities. March Flint updates are here! ???? This month, we’ve added highly requested teacher and student tools to Flint, and have upgraded the LLM powering Flint to Anthropic’s Claude 3.7 Sonnet. ???????7 time saving tools for teachers. Flint now has built-in tools including a text leveler, worksheet generator, report card comment writer, and more. Content created using these tools can be printed, exported to Google Drive, or downloaded as a Microsoft Word document. ???Study help for students (with guardrails). Students can now easily use Flint for 1-1 tutoring, to be quizzed on any topic, get help with research, and more. All student chats are available to school administrators (with flagging for inappropriate messages), and strict guardrails help ensure that Flint can’t be used to cheat. Awesome article by Jon Bergmann featuring Flint! My favorite part is Jon's framing of the risk that AI poses in "stupefying" students: "If there is hope to prevent the stupefaction of our students, we need to change how we teach and do education radically. When I started teaching in 1986, I lectured in front of the class. I then sent home challenging homework, and students struggled, so I helped them the next day. That method was not particularly effective in 1986, and it is bankrupt in 2025. Today, if I were to send the “hard stuff” home, most students would simply have AI do the work for them. This may be a pessimistic take, but I have spent almost forty years with students, and I don’t have the confidence that most will do the hard work if AI does it so quickly. Without the opportunity to truly appreciate the results of their learning, students will naturally resort to the path of least resistance." #ai #edtech #aiedtech #flint
