Last week, the Fleming's own Margaret Tamulonis and Phil Morin represented us at the New England Museum Association's (NEMA) annual conference. Highlights shown here include participants using collected plastics for an immersive art installation,?Community BLOOMS, by interdisciplinary artist Katy Rodden Walker and the New Bedford Whaling Museum, a packed conference room for the “Museums Our Way: An Indigenous Perspective” session presented by the team at Tomaquag Museum, and of course, the blue ocean and skies of Newport, RI. ? This year's theme, “We the Museum: Toward a 'More Perfect' Vision for our Changing World” felt particularly timely and served as a beautiful reminder that we are hardly alone in our desire to create a museum where all are welcome. Huge thanks to our NEMA community—we'll see you again next year! It’s #NationalStudentEmploymentWeek and we spoke with a few of our student employees whose enthusiasm, dedication, and initiative have made a positive impact here at the Fleming Museum of Art at the University of Vermont. We wanted to know their thoughts on museum life, what they’ve learned so far, and what having an art museum on campus can bring to the university experience!
