Kevin Cleaver, our final surveyor of #Nationalsurveyorsweek, grew up with a knack for history. As it turns out, having a passion for learning about the past blends very well with a life-long career in boundary surveying! In boundary surveying, you get to read the notes of past surveyors and dig up history to maintain the original boundary lines and keep properties to their intended area. ? While Kevin is not out in the field as much as he used to be, he thoroughly enjoys mentoring and coaching future surveyors. He has managed 8 (soon to be 9!) young people who are now professional surveyors. ? “Survey monumentation is going to be here hundreds of years from now; it’s long-lasting work that will be referenced for a very long time. You want future people to think you were a good surveyor.”? ? Thank you, Kevin, for applying your passion for history and continuing to encourage future generations to join the world of surveying. Let’s show Kevin our appreciation in the comments below!???

?? Engineering Merit Award ?? At ACEC/Michigan's 60th Engineering & Surveying Excellence Awards Gala on Saturday, March 8, Fleis & VandenBrink was honored with a Merit Award for their work on the Increasing Capacity, Efficiency & Savings project for Leoni Charter Township. Congratulations! ?? When Leoni Township WWTP’s flat-plate membrane trains began losing hydraulic capacity, F&V retrofitted them with hollow fiber type membranes. F&V integrated the new fibers with the old controls systems while reusing the existing piping to maintain the hydraulic profile during construction. The improvements provided the plant over $104,000 in energy savings. ?? For more information about this year's award-winning projects, visit https://lnkd.in/g99TzD_2. #ACECMI2025ESE

Michelle, one of our talented surveyors we are highlighting for #Nationasurveyorsweek, compares surveying to an adventure: “No two days are ever the same; your projects and their locations always vary. We often go places most people don't get to see, so some days really seem like an adventure.”??? When asked about her favorite surveying project she completed in the last year, she described “a large boundary in a remote but gorgeous area of woods in eastern Michigan.” Her team was uncovering a monument set almost a century ago by a surveyor from that time. Michelle loves following in the footsteps of the professionals before her. She holds a lot of respect for what those people did, all without the convenience of modern technology, to map our state and lay the foundation of her job today. Thank you so much, Michelle, for all your hard work and for providing such a distinct perspective on the historical aspects of surveying. Let’s Show Michelle our appreciation in the comments below!???

Another day, another #Nationalsurveyorsweek highlight!??? Shane Dressander has worked in the surveying industry for the last 25 years, so he’s definitely seen a thing or two. This doesn’t stop his excitement for new clients, new projects, and new sites to explore. Shane got his start by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries Biology and using it to work in the DNR for four years. While this was a great opportunity, the job wasn’t as fulfilling as he had hoped. Shane’s dad, who worked in engineering and developments, directed him toward surveying, which has led his career for the last two decades. ? If Shane could offer career advice to his younger self, he would encourage himself (and anyone trying to decide what field they’re going into) to research more options. “Before deciding on your career, try to get out and learn more about job opportunities and career options. I never knew that surveying was even an option for me, and I would have made different choices had I given myself a bit more time to explore.” Thank you, Shane, for all your hard work and dedication to the field of surveying. Let’s show Shane our appreciation in the comments below! ??

Happy #NationalSurveyorsWeek! To join in on the festivities, we’d like to introduce our own team of skilled surveyors, telling you a little bit about their background. Meet Jon Robison, a true leader in the surveying world who fell into his profession through what he considers “dumb luck!” Jon initially went to school to become a pharmacist, and quickly learned he needed more variety added to his daily schedule. He truly values being outdoors and working somewhere different every day. “When you’re in the field, you are always somewhere new and nothing is ever the same. You’re constantly facing different challenges, even when the scope of the project is similar.” Thank you, Jon, for all your hard work and for making sure your coworkers and clients always come first. Show Jon your appreciation in the comments below!
