Today we celebrate community leaders, community members, organizations, libraries, schools, businesses, teachers, scientists, engineers, and the Fleet co-creating programs and initiatives that served 408,000 people in 2024. At the Fleet, we believe that science - including math, technology and engineering, is at the core of our collective economic, civic, and cultural prosperity. ?????????? ?????? ?????? ???????? ?????????????? ???? ?????? ?????????????? ???? ?????????????? ???????????????? ???? ?????? ?????????? ???? ?????? ?????????? ???? ??????????????. In 2001, within a week my experience as a 6th grader went from being the class clown to being ostracized for reasons outside my control (my family is Muslim). Experiencing such extreme discrimination at a young age, from peers and teachers, taught me and my brother the importance inner strength. While I don't wish the negative experiences I've encountered as a Muslim American on anyone, I do see them as a superpower that's allowed me to uplift and celebrate others. As someone who has managed, people are motivated to be their best selves when they are seen and valued. Moreover, this makes the work fun (and easier to do). There is sustainability in practicing empathy, equity, and inclusion. For those facing discrimination in the workplace, losing jobs because of the person you are for reasons beyond your control -- I hope sharing this leaves you feeling emboldened to be your authentic self now more than ever. Do not be discouraged by people who want to dampen your light. Instead, find those who will support its shine. Two of my closest friends (both South Asian, like myself) visited the Fleet Science Center the other week and sent this picture to me, which absolutely warmed my soul. It is such an honor to be part of LGBTQ+ representation in the sciences, especially in these times. We are here, and we will continue celebrating.
