PLANNING FOR SUCCESS The 2025 Ultimate Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UUAV) Competition might not take place until spring, but the teams competing in this high-flying event have already started work on their UAVs. Six teams gathered at the Craven Community College Havelock Campus Saturday, November 16 for the UUAV Competition Fall Workshop. This event – a collaboration between the Fleet Readiness Center East STEM Outreach Team, NavalX Eastern North Carolina Tech Bridge and Craven Community College Havelock – focused on preparing local high school educators and students for the spring UUAV competition. Participants learned about small UAVs and their importance to the United States Department of Defense, then worked alongside FRCE engineers to build a UAV from foam materials. #STEMOutreach #STEMEducation #UnmannedAerialVehicle

HONORING YEARS OF DEDICATION Fleet Readiness Center East recently recognized team members with more than 20 years of federal service during a ceremony held at Cherry Point. FRCE INDUCTS FIRST NAVY CMV-22B FOR MAINTENANCE Fleet Readiness Center East has expanded its workload to encompass all three variants of the V-22 Osprey, including the family’s newest member: The US Navy CMV-22B. With receipt of this aircraft, the depot now services all three variants of the V-22 platform, which also include the United States Marine Corps MV-22B and the United States Air Force CV-22. The Navy’s awarding the workload to FRCE comes as a a direct result of the quality workmanship the command is known for across the board, according to #FRCE Commanding Officer Capt. Randy J. Berti. “I couldn’t be more proud that the Navy is entrusting us with this new mission. Every day, our workforce strives to provide high-quality service to the fleet at the best possible cost, and our success in that effort leads to the mutual trust and respect we have with our customers – our nation’s warfighters,” he said. The work we do here makes a real-world difference for them.” Despite the anticipated challenges that come along with learning the ins and outs of maintaining a new aircraft – even one so similar to familiar products – leaders believe the new workload offers FRCE a chance to shine by rounding out its support of the entire V-22 family. “The V-22 program at FRCE has received its accolades,” said Allen Williamson, V-22 Branch Head at FRCE. “We’re known for what we do, and not just within the brick-and-mortar site at Cherry Point. We have our detachment at New River, which is revered in its own light for the way they conduct a PMI. We have the In-Service Repair team down at New River that is making depot-level repairs while embedded with the Marine squadrons. And we have Hurlburt Field, where we support Air Force Special Operations Command. Fleet Readiness Center East’s Engine Rotor Assembly and Balance Shop services, repairs and balances the engine rotor assemblies for the UH-1N Huey, CH-53E Super Stallion and the MH-53E Sea Dragon helicopters. The rotor assembly is an integral part of any helicopter, transmitting power from the engine to rotate the helicopter’s blades, creating lift. The shop's artisans perform their work with exceptional precision and attention to detail, as rotor imbalances can result in excessive vibration, leading to accelerated wear and potential part failure. FRCE SUPERVISOR OF THE YEAR LEADS WITH EMPHASIS ON SERVICE A Fleet Readiness Center East engineer recently earned the title of the command’s 2024 Supervisor of the Year for his efforts to improve productivity, efficiency and team morale by emphasizing open communication, employee empowerment and work-life balance. Naval Aviation Systems Command recognized FRCE Supervisor of the Year Michael Wagoner and 11 other Supervisors of the Year from across the enterprise during a virtual award ceremony held Oct. 24. The 12 site winners were chosen from almost 100 nominations, including five from FRCE. Wagoner exemplifies the type of leader who makes it possible for FRCE to provide top-tier service to the fleet while meeting the needs of the workforce through supportive mentorship and coaching, said FRCE Commanding Officer Capt. Randy J. Fleet Readiness Center East’s STEM Outreach Team was on hand at the 2024. STEM Learning Ecosystems Community of Practice Convening in Chicago to assist DoD STEM, the Office of Naval Research and other United States Department of Defense agencies including Air & Space STEM Outreach, the Defense STEM Education Consortium, U.S. Army DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory and SMART Scholarship in showcasing the many STEM resources and opportunities available through DoD. On behalf of the Navy, the FRCE team provided a 3D pen activity during the DoD STEM session. The STEM Learning Ecosystems Community of Practice includes over 114 communities worldwide, all focused on creating strong partnerships to ensure that all young people have access to quality STEM learning experiences. FLYBY FRIDAY! During the maintenance, repair and overhaul process at Fleet Readiness Center East, aircraft and their components pass through many of the depot’s specialized shops, with the Aircraft Paint Shop often serving as their final stop before returning to the Fleet. The Aircraft Paint Shop helps ensure aircraft are equipped to support our troops during deployments and missions by maintaining their exterior surface. The shop's artisans prime and paint every aircraft that passes through FRCE. While these processes make aircraft look nicer, their main purpose is to improve safety and performance. Because the aircraft flown by our nation’s warfighters often operate in some of the world’s most extreme conditions, paint and exterior coatings are crucial for the aircraft’s longevity. This week, the shop’s artisans sand a Marine Corps MV-22B Osprey in preparation for a fresh coat of paint.
