Behind the Scenes: We just finalized the specifications for our 4th version of Flawless Match. A few new features that we are adding are an AR Mirror to try-on the shade that our bot matched you to, skin condition analysis to determine (e.g., oily, dry, combination), and a region filter to only show you matches who's brands offer shipping to your region. We will be in development and testing for the next two months. For testing, we will be recruiting women of all skin tones / undertones to test the accuracy of our matching algorithm on each class of user. Contact us if you would like to be part of the test group. I'm saving our key feature for launch. Stay tuned for the full version. Also, this month we welcomed two new members to our team, Ashley Harris and Alvaro Aguirre Saez. They are our Chief Growth Officer and Chief Operating Officer, respectively. The Flawless Match Journey: The idea for Flawless Match began in 2016, when I was pursuing my doctorate in electrical engineering, with a concentration in digital image processing, at the University of Texas at San Antonio.? I had obtained my master’s degree in the same, completing a project that automatically classified galaxies in astronomical images, and was continuing the path of image classification (computer vision) for my doctorate.? When considering what project to work on, my creative juices kicked in and foundation shade matching came to mind. I wanted to design a software application for the L’Oreal cosmetic line. I spent one semester doing research and writing code in Matlab, and found the solution at once.? At that time only one other group was working on shade matching technology, a research collaboration between Stanford and I believe the University of Ontario or Toronto.? They were using the wrist, and I was using the face.? Several factors caused me to leave the doctoral program, and my research project paused.? Fast forward to August 2024, I revived the project from grad school, this time working on the business side.? My Dad and I invested in the business when it was just a concept.? When I started the business, no cosmetics companies were using shade matching technology.? Live Try-On technology was being used by L’Oreal, and any other forward thinking cosmetics brand.? In September, a week and a half after I posted my project to the internet looking for a software developer, L’Oreal and their top 5 competitors switched from Live Try-On tech to shade matching tech.? I met Gowri, an engineer with expertise in digital image processing, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and full-stack development.? I knew that I had found my match.? We started working on the project, and by November we had completed three rounds of software development and were ready for beta testing.? From November to December I focused on B2B sales and fundraising, which proved fruitless from the method of cold calling, and turned out to be too early for investors.? However, I connected with Jason Weaver, an AI Angel Investor that gave me feedback and invited me to join his Startup Funding Help Group.? Since then, I’ve been checking the boxes to make the business fundable, which has brought me to my current task of hiring co-founders for sales & marketing and operations.? I didn’t cover all the details of running a business, as my completed task list is a page long (and that’s not even comprehensive).? Now, I’m writing the specs for our next version of software, and including tester feedback.? Flawless Match Inc has also been accepted to the pre-accelerator program, Founder University, which begins in March.? The horizon is bright for this company, and I’m thankful to God, my friends and family, and Gowri for supporting to this company to help bring my vision to life.? ?? ??
