“The best startups are born as a result of the founder solving their own problem.” ^^ this is a very conventional POV It’s not me or Flaunt. My entire career, I have been an “industry outsider.” My first startup, I dove in and solved my own problem, but over-optimized for myself and not for solving an important problem that applies to a lot of people I can efficiently reach. It failed. Was it because I was a startup noob that didn’t know what I was doing? Probably. But as I reflect on my entire career path where I’ve been very successful in a variety of roles, the only common thread is that I’ve been an outsider, solving problems for other people that I hadn’t experienced myself. It’s my pattern. I think it is more important to be fascinated by the problem and motivated to serve the people experiencing the problem than solving your own problem. If you’re like me and always finding yourself in industries that “you don’t come from”, embrace your inner outsider and the things you bring from being an outsider. It’s your edge. And watch this video of me walking around my house. #startups

I've had multiple prospects ask me recently -- "Is there a way we can work with Flaunt without actually having a loyalty program?" One of the key things we've learned at Flaunt is that it's not the loyalty program that drives value. It's the operators that actively use it as a tool for the business that drive the value. And not all Shopify-integrated businesses need a "loyalty program" in the traditional sense. Points, tiers, paid memberships, rewards, challenges, and combinations of the above don't make sense for every business. If you are treating different customers differently in a strategic way and have a value exchange -- you have a "loyalty program". * Email / SMS subscriber offers * Subscription program * Rewarded reviews * Winback flows * Post-purchase flows * Personalized recommendations * Seasonal promos * Email / SMS / social content * Facebook groups / Instagram channels * etc Increase retention, expand LTV, and fuel the business with customer insight. That's the outcome that people typically come to us with. I don't have a perfect answer to this question yet. But I suspect that it involves our data analysts and platform that connects all of the above data sources + our data analysts, our retention ninjas, and our AI toolkit. #Shopify #Loyalty #LoyaltyButNotLOYALTY

Loyalty programs don’t work in Shopify land. Retention marketers do though. They are the ones pulling cohorts of customers, documenting the user experience, responding to Gorgias tickets, analyzing the subscription journey, building incredible emails, calculating product recommendations, building surveys and quizzes, turning your 1st party data like reviews into insights that can improve the CX and launch a new product, writing briefs, building financial models, designing flows, analyzing data and building dashboards, and sharing insights with the rest of the organization. That’s how true loyalty is culitvated and LTV is optimized. Messy. In the trenches. God bless retention marketers. If you have a good one, give them a shout in the comments ?? #RetentionMarketing

Shopify x Klaviyo x Skio x Flaunt "Our AI Loyalty Manager is trained in your tools" is no joke. This is what happens when OpenAI's Operator meets expert consulting. Here's the storyline: # IDENTIFIED LAGGING KPI # We identified a lagging KPI for a client and tapped our AI loyalty manager to sift through all the ideas we had generated in past calls and presentations. # ESTIMATED ROI ON IDEAS # Our AI Loyalty Manager leveraged its library of retention marketing frameworks and knowledge base to recall and estimate the ROI of each idea. # GENERATED A BRIEF # Turn a concept into a detailed brief, ready to be collaborated on with all of your stakeholders. # DRAFTED THE CAMPAIGN # Turn the brief into an action plan that spans all of your key retention tools and drafts the campaign for you, letting you review the work before it's deployed. The result? Four experiments launched in one week driving $100k's of thousands in profits. ----------------- Are you a retention director that found this interesting? Update on the progress we are making building Flaunt’s AI Loyalty Manager: Turns out we aren’t replacing Chris Miller, CLMP, we are empowering him. Chris Miller, CLMP serves as a loyalty manager for each of Flaunt’s clients. We automated three tasks for him this week, spanning retention briefs and campaign builds. He is a tough critic, so I take positive feedback seriously. “This actually turned out pretty fantastically - I'm going to cross check against my written notes from the call, but all in all this was SUPER helpful and saved me probably 30+ min” We still have a long way to go to fulfill our vision. But it’s happening. When it is said and done, this is going to be game-changing for retention agencies and retention managers in the Shopify ecosystem and beyond. Our goal? Create 10x retention marketers. #Shopify #Loyalty #Manager

When I learned how to write SQL, it was a game changer. I want to give that power to retention marketers. Meet Flaunt's AI Loyalty Manager. Retention marketing in e-commerce is hard. You're managing 20+ apps and the data is all over the place. CDPs and analytics platforms are either watered down, or they are away from the action. And in reality, you don't want hundreds of charts to pour through, you want what you want, and you want it fast. With Flaunt's AI Loyalty Manager, you can: * Reduce reliance on a centralized data team. * Pull customer lists and trends that span ALL your retention data. * Write the SQL yourself (if you're a power user like me) What it doesn't do: * Simply matches your text to a library of pre-defined analyses. * Ever stop looking for proactice ways to lift your KPIs. * Cost a bazillion dollars. What's most exciting? --> It can flip from data to strategist and help brainstorm ideas that it can IMPLEMENT FOR YOU across your 20+ retention apps. Fun week! More detail on our building process next week. #AILoyaltyManager #Shopify #Klaviyo #Flaunt

This quarter, I am automating my best friend ?? Meet Chris Miller, CLMP - he is chief loyalty manager at Flaunt. And he is under water. We have learned that loyalty programs on their own don’t drive huge increases in retention. It is the loyalty manager — Chris Miller, CLMP — that actually drives the value by continuously collecting insights, generating new ideas, and executing them. But Chris Miller, CLMP can’t scale. So we are turning him into an AI Loyalty Manager that can. Flaunt is not attending any events, shows, booths, world touring, or renting Lamborghinis. Instead, we are laser-focused on automating my best friend (#AutomateChris) and getting every brand on Shopify a loyalty manager for a fraction of the cost. Follow along, it’s going to be a fun quarter! #AutomateChris #AILoyaltyManager #Shopify #Klaviyo #Gorgias #Rebuy #Skio #Gorgias #Yotpo #Okendo #Flaunt

I’m re-working the vision for Flaunt based on the unique angle we’ve found in the Shopify market. Here’s a peak: Some context first — Flaunt got started because Chris and I were like “brands are doing crazy stuff all over the internet (Roblox, NFTs, etc), how are they measuring and driving ROI on this stuff?” We saw Chipotle launch a loyalty campaign on Roblox and we said “ooooh. Rewards and promotions might be a big piece of this digital-first landscape.” So we kept pulling on that thread. Turns out, there was a tide across all businesses towards focusing on existing customers and owned channels. We let that thread pull us here and there and everywhere, got our hands dirty doing work for lots of different clients, and then ultimately, found a place where pain was red hot, the market was large, and we were driving lots of impact. Shopify. The problem we have stumbled upon — e-commerce retention teams have too many cookie cutter user experiences, too many siloed tools and datasets, and not enough deep insight and resources to pump out great work that grow repeat customer sales and develop strong customer relationships. Cool! A nice home for a business. But! This space is VERY crowded. So we sort of waded around in this ecosystem prioritizing doing great work for our limited number of initial Shopify clients. And had a healthy level of skepticism. “What were we doing that was unique?” We were beating much larger, very entrenched competitors with Figma screens. We started off powering a loyalty program, but evolved to provide a radically different experience for retention teams that was beyond loyalty programs. We have developed three core SaaS tools: * loyalty/referrals * retention analytics * promotions And three fractional employees: * strategist * analyst * coordinator Our SaaS tools do NOT compete with these other tools, but our fractional employees measure and operate some of them on behalf of clients: * email * sms * subscriptions * customer service * e-commerce * reviews * on-site recommendations * product quizzes/surveys What I think our opportunity is looks like: * Create an intelligent retention platform that supports the strategic, multi-channel, cross-functional, and analytical realities of e-commerce retention teams without playing the same game as others, becoming watered-down “one-stop-shops”. * Prioritize embedding these fractional employees into retention manager’s workflows. * Be GREAT at the SaaS jobs we are already in market with (given the market was weak enough in those areas to welcome us in). * But DON’T be everything to everyone (sms+email+subs+reviews…etc) * Play the ORCHESTRATOR game. Give each retention marketer (and agency/consultant) a strategist, analyst and coordinator at their disposal. Give them 10x the insights, 10x the output, and 10x the impact on their organization. Big vision. Tiny current team. And only one thing I know for certain about the future: “You’re wrong, act accordingly.”
