?? Exciting News! ??
I'm thrilled to announce that our latest paper, Pediatric Asthma Surveillance System (PASS): Community-Facing Disease Monitoring for Health Equity, has been published in NEJM Catalyst Innovations in Care Delivery.
In collaboration with Parkland Health, Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS), and the Parkland Center for Clinical Innovation (PCCI), we developed PASS as a dynamic, community-facing information toolkit. This system leverages advanced AI/machine learning techniques to predict pediatric asthma risk, identify key risk drivers, and map disparities at the ZIP code and US Census tract levels.
PASS is designed to support health care delivery systems, public health entities, and social services organizations by providing actionable insights to improve pediatric asthma outcomes. Through this tool, we can uncover microgeographic disparities and tailor interventions more effectively. Further, the structure is generalizable and can be used for other geographies and other disease families, enabling public health professionals and community leaders to have a forward-looking view of their communities as they prepare operational strategies.
I am proud and deeply appreciative to be part of this initiative, which exemplifies the power of cross-disciplinary partnerships in addressing health inequities and improving community health outcomes. I am also deeply humbled by the commitment and dedication of my coauthors: yolande Pengetnze, Teresita Oaks, MPH, Yusuf Talha Tamer, PhD, Hannah Ligon, MHA, PMP, Steve Miff, Lance Rather, Phillip Huang MD, MPH, Cesar Termulo, PHD, and Jason Allen, RRT, without whom the impact of this project for the community would have remained an idea on a whiteboard.
