Congratulations to this year’s Early Educator of the Year, Janibel Torres, presented jointly by The Children’s Movement of Florida and Florida Association for the Education of Young Children during 2024 Florida Association for the Education of Young Children (FLAEYC) conference!? Janibel is currently teaching in a VPK classroom at Jack & Jill Center, in Broward County. Her passion for early childhood education radiates through her work and her ability to create engaging nurturing and developmentally appropriate learning environments for the children, her leadership among peers and the support she provides to parents is outstanding. Calling all early childhood educators! Here are 3 tips (+ a bonus!) that can help set you up for success in the classroom: 1?? Keep attention spans in mind. For young children, think 1-2 minutes per year of life. So for 2-year-olds, you’ve got about 2 minutes to hold their focus! ?? 2?? Incorporate movement throughout the day—whether it’s dancing at circle time or stomping like elephants to wash hands, kids learn better when they move. ?? 3?? Developmentally appropriate practice (DAP) is key. Prioritize outdoor playtime—it’s essential for growth and learning! ?? ?
