On Friday last week, we took the team to Elan Crown Point in Ocoee, Florida. During our two-hour walkthrough, we discussed window installations, balcony waterproofing details, exterior waterproofing details, and more. Elan Crown Point is set to open later this year.

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we are excited to recognize Architect Amy VanderMeer, AIA, NCARB, who was featured in Building Enclosure Magazine! Amy discusses her triumphs and challenges as a single mother pursuing an advanced degree and entering the architectural field. She cites Zaha Hadid, Tatiana Bilbao, and Jeanne Gang as pioneering female designers who have championed equitable and inclusive spaces—a trend she aims to continue. “The best advice for women entering the industry is to believe in yourself, your ideas, and your creativity,” Amy said. “Seek mentors you trust to guide you and who help you build professional connections. Strong communication and leadership skills are just as important as technical abilities; balancing between both is the key to long-term success.”

The Robert and Joanne Koch Scholarship for Architecture aims to provide financial assistance to an exceptional student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in architecture at an accredited college in Florida. Zion Village is taking shape! ??? Construction is moving full steam ahead on Zion Village, a $33.5M affordable senior housing community in Riverview, FL! Fern Grove Apartments is located at 3750 W.D. Judge Drive in the Orlando city limits and consists of 138 units reserved for those over 55 with incomes at or below 70% of the area’s median income. “The city continues to develop strategies to expand housing options for residents at all income levels,” city officials said in a news release. Fern Grove Apartments offers residents a clubhouse, fitness center, and game room. The affordable housing complex also features several sustainable and energy-efficient practices, including solar panels on building roofs, a modern hot water boiler system, Energy Star appliances, LED lights, and energy-efficient windows. The complex has additional expansion plans with FK Architecture, rolling out a second and third phase of construction in the future.
