More Breaking News From the Emerge Center!!! Five Star Being Featured as a Model Second-Chance Employer Be sure to keep an eye out this week for another news story featuring Five Star Home Services! On Monday, Spectrum News Reporter Alese Underwood visited the Emerge Center to feature Five Star and the growing ecosystem as it is considered the ideal model for second-chance employment. Underwood spoke with Five Star CEO Christian Rattin, Emerge Cofounder Kip Morris, Brian Evans from the Five Star Marketing team, and various students taking classes at The Trades Institute! The story comes after Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine gave his "State of the State" address on March 12. During that speech, the governor encouraged area businesses and industries to hire felons, people in recovery, and people leaving the prison system who are trying to re-enter society. At Five Star, we applaud DeWine for being progressive in this matter! We've built our company with this model! Join us in congratulating this wonderful community organization, the Hope Spot of Greene County, as it celebrates 10 years this spring!!! As a Profit On Purpose company, the Hope Spot is one of the nonprofit organizations we at Five Star Home Services are proud to support! We love the Hope Spot! Over the past 10 years, under the leadership of Amy Pulver, the Hope Spot has grown by leaps and bounds! The Hope Spot is opening a second location, and the number of staff members working here continues to increase! These and other milestones were highlighted Thursday morning at the monthly meeting of the Greene County Drug-Free Coalition Meeting. We at Five Star Home Services are proud to serve on this coalition. “This is the Hope Spot's tenth year,” Pulver said during the meeting. “We were originally located on Market Street in Xenia. At one point, we operated out of the Emerge Center campus temporarily while this space opened at 529 W. Second St.” Pulver said the Hope Spot is having an open house from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 10. The community is encouraged to attend to show their support! “We are a recovery community organization,” Pulver said. “We work with people and families impacted by addiction. We help people find the next step forward. We don’t offer treatment. But we do offer peer support and educational training. Empowering people is one of our biggest things. Fear holds people back. People fear there won’t be any more fun in recovery. This isn’t true! We have recovery parties and all sorts of fun activities.” Pulver said she is also excited about their plans for a new location opening this spring as a resource center in Beavercreek. “This new location isn't going to be like our current location,” she said. “There will be more of a focus there on mental health and veteran services. We look to help family members impacted by addiction. We need to meet the needs of the communities we serve. With that location being close to Wright Patterson Air Force Base, we will be able to serve veterans more. We also look to work towards suicide prevention for our youth. Eventually, I see a need for parent support. We could work with Beavercreek High School as well. This space is more about resources and helping people. There won’t be activities and support group meetings like we have here in Xenia.” In addition to the new location in Beavercreek, which will be located at 3852A Kemp Road, the Hope Spot has grown from a one-person staff into a staff of five.
