I want to piggyback on a thread started by my colleague Rebecca Worthen about AI in resume writing and the lack of individuality (or truth-telling) that ensues when the LLMs are used inappropriately. The comments veered off into a number of arguments that suggested if recruiters are going to use AI (not sure they want to outsource their jobs, even when they ranking capability is there, at least according to multiple recruiter experts I follow and learn from every day), then jobseekers posting for hundreds of jobs per week should be able to use AI to tweak their resumes, too (not getting into the arguments re "job search is a numbers game" here, but feel free to comment). I think the real position is that you *can* use AI to rewrite and/or tweak your resume. It's obviously possible and you have the free tools, including ChatGPT, at your disposal. The real question is whether you ought to do so. Even more, why do you feel compelled to do so? What do you believe that ChatGPT has that you don't? What you will say when the recruiter potentially catches you in a small untruth (plenty of stories out there that suggest this is a reality)?
