A couple of weeks ago, my Multimedia Production class had an incredible opportunity to tour the NBC6 News/Telemundo offices, thanks to our professor, Marcela Valdivia, M.S., a producer at WTVJ NBC6 Miami. Getting a behind-the-scenes look at a major news station in action was both exciting and rewarding. Seeing how a live morning broadcast comes together gave me a whole new appreciation for the fast-paced world of journalism. A huge thank you to everyone we spoke with at the station for sharing their insights and experiences! It was especially inspiring to chat with morning anchors Kris Anderson and Constance Jones, who are not only industry professionals but also current FIU students—proof that learning never stops! I also want to give a special shoutout to Yansall Rasquides, an FIU graduate, for being so uplifting and encouraging about taking risks in this industry. FIU held the #305Day celebration in D.C. last week, where we showcased the innovation, tech, and partnerships that make #Miami a coastal hub of innovation! Alongside eMerge Americas, FIU Alumni, 1Print, and Miami-Dade County, Wednesday’s event included interactive presentations on environmental technologies and coastal resilience. Our panel included Tyler Johnson, Director of Dual Technology for eMerge Americas, Dr. Shahin Vassigh of Florida International University, and Co-Founder of 1Print Adam Friedman; representing Florida International University’s partnership with Miami-Dade County in the Risk & Resilience Tech Hub. Postdoctoral candidate Sara Pezeshk of FIU Institute of Environment and FIU College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts, also brought physical examples of the Ecoblox seawall restoration project for the guests, which included members of the FIU Alumni Board. Special thanks to #HamiltonScholar Carla Mendez, FIU College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts senior in Digital Communications & Media and Caplin News intern, who hosted the event!
