  • Staying active in our sedentary workplace settings can be a challenge. Helping people stay active is one of our main missions here at Fit 4 Life Physical Therapy. This is the inspiration behind our Stay Active Saturdays post. We look forward to sharing with you simple ways you can stay active each Saturday! First up: 5 ways you can work to stay active! 1- Start your morning with some simple movements. This can include movements such as chin tucks, shoulder rolls, cat/cow, marching in place, downward facing dog, and hip rotations. Doing some yoga or taking a walk/jog before work will also set your day up in the positive movement-wise. 2- Take the stairs if they are available over the elevator. Steeling extra steps can go along way at increasing your daily activity level and adds up to help with overall heart health! 3- Consider a walking meeting when possible over sitting in a conference room. Can't walk and talk, allow staff the option to stand instead of sit. 4- Take a walk on your lunch break. Everyone should do this! Walking after eating can help regulate blood sugar and the movement break is good for brain health, concentration, and the fresh air will give you a boost of motivation and energy to finish your day. 5- Set an alarm on your phone or computer every hour to MOVE. This can be as simple as switching your desk from sitting to standing, standing and marching in place, walking to the restroom, copier, or coffee machine. Our biggest takeaway is this: don't underestimate the little things you can do each day to increase your activity levels. Even little things add up to big changes in your overall health.   • February is Heart Health Month! Earlier this week, Jennifer Nieset, PT and Owner of Fit 4 Life Physical Therapy in Concord was asked by Dr. Bill Sopchak of Sopchak Natural Health & Wellness to share a seminar on heart health for his patient population. What Types of Exercise Are Best for Heart Health? Aerobic Exercise: Activities like walking, running, swimming, or cycling are excellent for cardiovascular health. Strength Training: Building muscle with weightlifting or resistance exercises improves overall fitness and metabolism, helping you burn fat more efficiently. Flexibility and Balance: Exercises like yoga or Pilates can reduce stress and improve circulation, which indirectly benefits the heart. How Much Exercise Should You Get? The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity per week, along with muscle-strengthening exercises at least two days a week. Final Thoughts: Taking just a few minutes each day to get moving can make a huge difference for your heart health. Whether it’s walking, swimming, or hitting the gym, exercise is a powerful tool for a healthy, long life. Remember to consult with your doctor before starting any new exercise routine, especially if you have existing health conditions. I’ll share the replay below. PS.   • Why should you choose to pay out of pocket for physical therapy when you have insurance? We have a few reasons why we think you should AND why our patients tell us they do. 1- Insurance shouldn’t dictate your care. Period. No prior authorizations, no set number of visits, no delays in care or exclusions to what we can and cannot do in a session. Did you know Medicare has decided dry needling isn’t allowed? Did you know traditional insurances follow their rulings? Do you know how much the big hospitals charge for cash based services? Over double our fees. 2- Care by a trusted professional and friend. More and more, policies are requiring you meet a deductible prior to full coverage beginning. So choose someone you trust. We can share a superbill with you for you to submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement or application toward your deductible. You can also plan ahead and set aside HSA / FSA funds to cover the care you need. 3- You are our focus. One-on-one, personalized care. Hour long sessions. These things shouldn’t be the exception.
