Earlier this week, Fishman Haygood LLP partner Kerry Miller took part in “A Seat at the Table,” a co-ed discussion of implicit bias and legal culture held at U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana. During the CLE event, presenters acted out real-life scenarios within the legal environment, addressing topics like affinity bias, performance bias, and intersectionality. Kerry (pictured here with Judge Susie Morgan and Gerald Waltman III) participated in a skit centered around biases associated with maternity leave, namely the perception that the female lawyer/parent is somehow less committed to her work than a male lawyer/parent because she is more distracted by family issues. After each presentation, the panel and audience engaged in interactive discussions, sharing lived experiences and offering advice on how to handle similar situations. Thanks to all involved in sponsoring such an important event!
