  • As we conclude our Women in Construction spotlights, meet Kimberly Jones! Her hard work and dedication make a difference on our team. Thank you for all you do! "I have been with Fisher Contracting for 7 years, currently serving as a Dispatch Supervisor. My journey into the construction industry was initially influenced by family business, but my passion for the people I work with, as well as being part of the bigger picture is what truly keeps me motivated. Every day presents a new challenge and I appreciate that. My advice for women considering a career in construction is to be yourself!! As a woman in this industry, your authenticity is your superpower. If you lean into your true self, you have an opportunity to build trust and relationships with those around you. In my free time, I enjoy watching true crime documentaries, listening to podcasts, gardening, and spending quality time with my family and friends."

  • Today, we're spotlighting Amber Le McKee! She is a team player and a valued member of our Fisher Contracting team. "I’ve been with Fisher Contracting for one year, as of March, working as the Project Controls Manager on an Ash Pond Closure Project in Gallatin, TN. I was drawn to a career in construction because it allows me to be a nerd with a big personality! While I previously worked in accounting, I felt the need to present myself in a certain way. However, in project controls, I can dive into the numbers one minute and then be out in the field learning and joking with the crew the next. I’m constantly discovering new aspects of the job, which I can take back to my desk and correlate to numbers on paper. We are incredibly fortunate to live in a time where women in construction are becoming more common and we face fewer challenges. For women considering a construction career, remember that you shouldn't feel like you have to fight for a seat at the table. Find a table where you are welcomed and enjoy the experience! In my free time, I’m an avid reader and baker. I also love spending time with my gigantic family, cheering on my nieces and nephews, and hanging out with my cats: Lloyd, Harry, and Dozer (the office cat)."

  • A week isn’t enough time to highlight all the incredible Women in Construction, so we’re keeping the spotlights going this week! Meet Kim Schroeder, our Office Manager—we're grateful to have her expertise on our team! "I’ve been with Fisher Contracting for 24 years, currently serving as the Office Manager. Originally from Indiana, I graduated from Purdue University with a degree in General Management, with a major in Accounting. My journey into construction began after I moved to Michigan in 1982 and applied for an accounting position at a construction company in Saginaw. I loved the job, and that marked the start of my 38-year career in the industry. My advice for women interested in construction is to not be afraid to ask questions if something is unclear, accept criticism and learn from it, and be open to trying new things. You’ll never discover your true passion if you don’t explore all your possibilities. Outside of work, I enjoy walking my two Pembroke Welsh Corgis every day, as well as hiking, doing crafts, gardening, and reading thrillers and suspense mystery novels. I also have two children."

  • We're continuing our Women In Construction highlights with Desiree Wood! She is a wonderful member of our Fisher Contracting team. "I have been with Fisher Contracting for 9 years, starting as a co-op during my senior year of high school. Currently, I work as an Accounting Specialist, where I work with both Accounts Payable and compile billings for several projects. This dual role has helped me improve my workflow and understand the importance of having all the necessary information to complete my job. I was initially drawn to a career in construction when my high school counselor suggested I interview at Fisher for a Co-op Position. I was seeking "real world" experience. After a few months of working here, I quickly gained knowledge and enjoyed the atmosphere of learning something new with the various projects. Once I graduated, I was hired full-time and my journey has been nothing short of adventurous. My advice for women interested in construction is to not be afraid to take the first step and make a name for yourself in the industry. Every job is unique, and you never know how many opportunities or accomplishments could come your way if you don’t try. Outside of work, as a wife and Mother, I enjoy taking adventures with my family to different cities for a change of scenery. I also love trail riding in my Jeep with friends to take a break from the usual routine."

  • Today we introduce to you, Bailey Newman. We are proud to have her on our Fisher Contracting team! "I’ve been with Fisher Contracting since May 2024, shortly after graduating from Western Kentucky University. I currently work as a Project Engineer. My interest in construction was sparked in high school, where I had the opportunity to learn from exceptional mentors. Growing up, I was surrounded by strong, career-driven women who inspired me to pursue a meaningful and impactful career. Internships and college coursework further solidified my passion, leading me to earn a degree in Construction Management. I find this field incredibly fulfilling, especially working for a company like Fisher Contracting. My advice for women interested in construction is that your presence is needed and valued! If you’re passionate about the work, go for it wholeheartedly. Seek out strong women mentors who will support and push you to your full potential. Trust your instincts, embrace the learning process, and don’t be afraid to fail—it’s the best way to grow. Remember, you’re paving the way for future generations of women in the industry! In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, taking my dog on long walks with my fiancé, and enjoying a nice cup of coffee while reading on weekends.

  • As we continue Women In Construction Week, meet Samantha Hand! We are so lucky to have her on our Fisher Contracting team. "I’ve been at Fisher Contracting for a year and a half, working as an Accounts Payable Coordinator. I’ve always known I would be in some kind of career in construction, and I’ve always been a hands-on worker from a young age. In high school, I juggled with the idea of going into building trades. My Dad told me I excelled in school, and that I should continue furthering my education by pursuing a career in engineering. I initially went to college for engineering and I do still enjoy the engineering/blueprint drawing side of construction. However, I’ve pivoted in the construction field, and learned a lot about the accounting side and have enjoyed that, as well! My advice to women considering a career in construction is to be open and see all the different aspects of construction. Construction has many different branches to explore and different career paths within. It’s a great field to get into! In my free time I enjoy being outside. In the summer months, I often go camping and love being out on the water on my paddle board. I enjoy being with my family and friends and taking my dog on walks."

  • This week is Women In Construction Week and we will be highlighting several of the incredible women that make up Fisher Contracting! First up, let's hear it for Cindy Price! "I've been with Fisher Contracting for 7 years, starting with a 5-week field job that eventually turned into a long-term career. I began in the field and worked my way up to an Administrative Role for the Southern Division. My journey into construction wasn't something I initially planned, but I'm grateful for it. My husband and I switched roles when he became sick and was no longer able to work. He took on the role of caretaker for our granddaughter, while I stepped into the construction world. Fisher Contracting is like family to me. It goes way beyond work -- one call and they will come running to help me at any time. I enjoy my job and all the people that I work with. My advice to women considering a career in construction is simple: enjoy what you do! Outside of work, I love spending my free time Jeeping—it's a big part of my life when I'm not on the job." Thank you for all that you do, Cindy!
