It's been a pretty fishy January for FisheryProgress, as we've welcomed multiple new FIPs to the website. Though they are not yet reporting on their progress, prospective FIPs intend to meet the requirements to become an active FIP within one year. Stay tuned as we follow these fisheries on their sustainability and social responsibility journeys.

Shoutout to the Indonesia South Kalimantan shrimp FIP for voluntarily completing a social risk assessment! This component of FisheryProgress' Human Rights and Social Responsibility?Policy usually applies to large scale industrial fisheries that might be operating in a more high-risk context. Despite its small scale nature, this?shrimp FIP has gone above and beyond by choosing to perform?the risk assessment, taking an extra step to identify any risks in its fishery.?You can learn more about this FIP by visiting its FisheryProgress profile here: https://lnkd.in/eCDG4DnP

Happy New Year! What better way to start January 2025 than welcoming another prospective fishery improvement project to FisheryProgress. Suriname-based Caribbean Sea Foods NV and Deep Sea Atlantic NV have partnered with Centre for Development and Sustainable Fisheries (CeDePesca) to develop the initial stages for a FIP for the southern red snapper, vermillion snapper, kingfish, and grouper handline and longline fishery. The MSC pre-assessment will be conducted by the CeDePesca team during the next few months. Welcome aboard!

Baja Aqua Farms (BAF) is initiating a prospective fishery improvement project for the pacific bluefin tuna fishery carried along the Pacific waters off Baja California Peninsula, Mexico. The FIP aims to align the fishery with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) standard and eventually achieve the certification through a stepwise improvement program led by BAF, as well as to comply with FisheryProgress’ Human Rights and Social Responsibility Policy. Baja Aqua-Farms is a tuna ranching company, and through this FIP, it seeks to strengthen its commitment to the gold fisheries sustainability standard, promote the best fishery management practices throughout the fishery, and allow an external review of its sustainability performance. Furthermore, the company is looking to certify the wild catch fishery phase of its operation to ensure all its customers that 100% of the tuna that is harvested to be used in its farm is sourced from a sustainable fishery.?Welcome aboard!
