Late last week, the Massachusetts Legislature passed a highly-anticipated climate and clean energy bill that will support the Commonwealth's transition to a clean energy future. The comprehensive package will accelerate the development of new clean generation, streamline the siting and permitting process, incentivize and realize the value of new and existing energy storage, and much more. On National First Responders Day, FirstLight honors the brave individuals who risk their lives each day to protect our communities. Through years of charitable giving, including via our FirstLight Sustains program, FirstLight has proudly supported first responders in our communities, giving over $300,000 in donations to enhance public safety in Massachusetts and Connecticut in the past decade alone. Pictured below is the Kent Volunteer Fire Department, a FirstLight Sustains grantee whose team of volunteers rescued 100+ individuals in the Southbury and Oxford areas this August when extreme rainfall and flooding left many stranded. FirstLight was thrilled to support the Franklin County Agricultural Society's project to enhance the accessibility of the Franklin County Fairgrounds to better accommodate all guests. Last month, they completed the final phase of the project, which included walkway repaving at the Fairgrounds, funded with a grant from the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism, and an effort to convert a portion of the grandstand seating for wheelchair users supported by a grant from FirstLight Sustains. ?
