Proud to be a day-zero investor in Eudia, which just announced a $105M Series A to transform how Fortune 500 legal teams operate with Augmented Intelligence! ?? The legal industry is at a crossroads. Take a look at the 2025 AI in Business Intelligence Software Report!
AI in BI: a 2025 report written by a human (who, admittedly, fails CAPTCHA at times ?? ). It seems like every engineer is using AI to become a super engineer. Companies in the “coding copilot” category are becoming unicorns at an unprecedented rate. But what about Business Intelligence? The current BI market is dominated by industry titans like Salesforce Tableau, Google Looker, and Microsoft PowerBI. It’s difficult to decipher their AI+BI results because it’s engulfed in their parent company’s massive revenue numbers - you can’t become a unicorn when you’re already worth trillions. So we decided to test them all—but we didn’t stop there. We nervously evaluated ourselves, too. (Spoiler: self-assessment is hard.) Comparing your own offering to the best in the market is humbling but also incredibly eye-opening. The reality is that BI was starting to feel indistinguishable. Most vendors offered similar features in reports/dashboards, queries, modeling, semantics—the list goes on. But what excited us is how AI is shattering this monotony, pushing these companies to break free from the status quo and embrace bold, imaginative features. Full report: https://lnkd.in/gK9sNAYN Special shout out to Drew Harry, Peter Fishman, and David Pidsley for helping provide feedback along the way. P.S. Share your thoughts in the comments! We began with the simple idea of trying different tools, but quickly realized that evaluating them is no easy task. There’s a lot we’d approach differently next time, but we hope this provides you with some interesting takeaways.

At FirsthandVC, our core value has always been our trusted friendship network. While AI helps us streamline operations as a boutique fund, it’s the incredible friends in the Firsthand network who truly add unmatched value to the founders we partner with. The Firsthand Summit was a perfect reflection of this ethos, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the active support of so many friends: ?? Ludovic Ulrich and Ben Lorica 罗瑞卡 for bringing in the best staff team to power the event. ?? George Mathew, Jeff Yoshimura, and Woodson Martin for lining up incredible speakers. ?? Armando Mann, Stephen S., and Thomas McCleary for inviting fantastic guests. … and countless others who stepped up to make this event exceptional. It truly takes a village to put together a great show—or a great VC fund like FirsthandVC. Thank you to everyone who contributed! P.S. Of course, it’ll also take a crew of agents to make your business great: check out CrewAI - the multi-agent platform. (We’re not wasting any chance to shout out our portfolio companies ??). #FirsthandVC #TeamWork
As FirsthandVC kick off 2025 with exciting opportunities to invest in founders building agentic software, we’re thrilled to share highlights from last month’s Firsthand Summit, held at the iconic Salesforce Tower in SF ?? The gathering was a celebration of authentic friendships and shared journeys. Accomplished Salesforce alumni came together to reconnect with old friends, forge new bonds, and reflect on the experiences that shaped their paths. It was a reminder of the power of community and how much we can achieve when we support each other. We’re deeply grateful to our amazing speakers, Adam Evans, Sarah Franklin, Ping Wu, Marco Casalaina, Wei Chen, Clint Smith, Adam Caplan, Hari Kannan, Chris Chang, Meredith Flynn-Ripley, Chris Hecht, George Mathew, Gary Brandeleer, Boaz Hecht, Michele Catasta, Jeff Yoshimura, Ben Kwon, Matt Garratt, Amy Osmond Cook, Ph.D., Christina Crawford Kosmowski, Cathy Polinsky, Sunil Rao, Woodson Martin who brought heartfelt stories, fun and invaluable insights to the stage. A special shoutout also goes to some of our incredible portfolio founders David Knight, Steve Wood, Ari Caroline, Brandon Rice at FirsthandVC who shared their visionary ventures with the group. The warmth, camaraderie, and innovation (and a lot of AI ?? ) at the summit left us feeling deeply inspired for the year ahead. Missed it last year? Full circle moment! ?? Back in the room where we launched CG Cloud 6 years ago @ Salesforce tower in SF - this time sharing the stage with incredible leaders Woodson Martin, Christina Crawford Kosmowski, and Cathy Polinsky at the Firsthand.vc Summit. (Thanks for the creative challenge, Woodson, keeping us on our toes by banning certain keywords! ??) Special thanks to Simon Chan for bringing together this powerhouse panel a couple of weeks back. We dived deep into the invaluable lessons from our shared past that shaped our leadership journeys today.

I had the absolute best time at the Firsthand.vc Summit last week! It was an unbelievable event--all about the current and future state of AI. Simon Chan thank you so much for the invitation to participate! Here I am looking like a JC Penney’s ad walking into the most incredibly decorated holiday lounge at the Salesforce tower. I had an amazing time moderating a panel discussion with Jeff Yoshimura and Ben Kwon, who are two of the smartest people, period. I offered an a capella version of ACDC's Thunderstruck. So there was that. I also loved hearing from Lattice CEO Sarah Franklin and meeting her and her head of comms, Cheryl Sanclemente. We were talking about HR and Tech. I was thinking about how to ask Sarah where she bought her incredible purple dress. Met tons of other incredible people, like Robin Daniels, Craig Nile, Suyog Deshpande, Woodson Martin, Kintan Brahmbhatt, Guy Marion, Jane Hynes, Michelle Jones, Sunny Manivannan, John Todd, and Zach Lawryk. Connected with old friends like Matt Garratt. And learned from amazing speakers like Adam Evans, Ping Wu, Marco Casalaina, Adam Caplan, Clint Smith, Hari Kannan, Chris Chang, Maor Ezer, Chris Hecht, George Mathew, Meredith Flynn-Ripley, Gary Brandeleer, Michele Catasta, David Knight Cathy Polinsky, Christina Crawford Kosmowski, Sunil Rao, Steve Wood, and Ari Caroline. Can't wait for next year.
