Yesterday, FCMA Frontline Supervisor session on Performance Coaching was hosted by Smurfit WestRock, a global leader in innovative packaging solutions. Beyond its cutting-edge packaging solutions, Smurfit WestRock is also committed to developing strong leaders who drive success through accountability, teamwork, and clear communication. Following their training session (which included an opportunity for 1:1 practice coaching sessions), our participants took a tour of the facility, gaining a firsthand view of Smurfit WestRock’s operations. They then participated in an engaging leadership Q&A panel, where experienced leaders shared valuable coaching and feedback strategies to foster team growth, accountability, and high performance. This morning, we kicked off the latest First Coast Manufacturers Association Frontline Supervisor I Program with a breakfast event that set the tone for what promises to be an incredible leadership journey. With 22 participants from 13 area companies, the room was energy-filled as new connections were formed, and ideas began to flow. There’s something powerful about bringing together high-potential leaders who are ready to grow, challenge themselves, and make a difference—not just for their teams, but for their companies and communities. Big thanks to our special guests, two recent leadership academy graduates who came back to share some wisdom and inspire the new class: ? Sunmi Jin from Solar Stik, Inc. opened by encouraging the group with, "You will have a wonderful time!" as they embark on this journey. Reflecting on her own experience, she shared a key insight: "Leadership isn't about having the right answers; it's about asking the right questions." Her final piece of advice: "Be brave, be vulnerable, and ask the 'stupid' questions." ? Kenny Walters, representing BAE Systems, Inc. added, “Have an open mind.” He urged participants to use the program to their advantage, especially when tackling challenges like managing difficult people. He said, “Take notes and refer back to them—they’ll help you in your toughest leadership moments.” The morning wasn’t just about learning—it was about connecting. Participants jumped into early meet-and-greet conversations, sharing stories and starting relationships that will grow throughout the program.
