Fueling the Energy Transition

关于我们

First Ammonia is developing the world’s first modular, commercial-scale plants to produce green ammonia from intermittent renewable energy. First Ammonia’s plants will be the first to use solid oxide electrolyzer cell (SOEC) technology for hydrogen electrolysis. It has secured a supply of 5GW of electrolyzers from Topsoe of Denmark with the world’s largest ever electrolyzer capacity reservation agreement. First Ammonia is acquiring the best project sites in the world with access to low cost renewable energy, generous subsidies for capex, and the prospect for subsidized offtake. Green ammonia will play a central role in global decarbonization in agriculture, power generation and storage and transportation as a renewable energy-based transportation fuel that is carbon-free end to end. With a headquarters office in New York, First Ammonia will operate production facilities on five continents, with the help of our larger engineering and project development team who sit in our other office locations in Houston-Texas, Berlin-Germany, and Copenhagen-Denmark.

Along with our partners and friends from around the world, it was a privilege to see the Topsoe Solid Oxide Electrolyzer factory operation in Herning, Denmark, producing the electrolyzers that will be used at our flagship facility in Victoria, Texas.? ? The factory is the product of decades of innovation by the Topsoe team to achieve this level of performance and durability in its solid oxide electrolyzer cores. We congratulate Topsoe on their remarkable achievement.? ? The fact that our partners and friends at Uniper, Worley, Manies Group, Mercuria Holding, and Export and Investment Fund of Denmark joined the visit, underlines how moments like these rely on the collaboration and knowledge sharing of so many incredible teams from around the world.? ? It is remarkable to reflect how far we have come working together, knowing that this is only the beginning.

"This is the birth of a new industry. This is the place where new energy begins." Some projects begin to feel real when the first spade breaks ground, others when you a ribbon is cut and doors are opened. At Topsoe, our projects feel realized and ready once we share their progress with the partners and collaborators that make them possible. On Oct.11, we opened the doors of our facility in Herning and invited in some of the key figures that have made the completion of the largest SOEC manufacturing facility in Europe possible. Our partners and trusted collaborators from First Ammonia, Uniper, Manies Group,?Worley?and Export and Investment Fund of Denmark?toured the brand new facility, were introduced to Topsoe's rigorous approach to zero harm and safety, and were even witness to some of the first SOEC cells pressed and produced on Herning's grounds. Watch the video below to see the latest look at this state-of-the-art facility, and a special thanks to?Joel Moser, Benedikt Messner, Masato Hisamune, Graeme Wilson?and Anders Thorsen?for sharing their thoughts on this special day with all of us. ? First Ammonia's Texas Plant Reaches Another Milestone with the Launch of the Fabrication of the First 100 MW of Topsoe Solid Oxide Electrolyzers -First Ammonia and Topsoe have finalized and signed the supply and service agreements for the first solid oxide electrolyzers for the flagship green ammonia project in Victoria, Texas. -The signing of these agreements kick off the supply of the first 100 MW solid oxide electrolyzer (SOEC) modules at Topsoe’s new factory in Herning, Denmark. -This milestone follows the remarkable performance of Topsoe’s solid oxide electrolyzer demonstration core that has been running in Topsoe’s Frederikssund facility since the end of 2023 under industrial conditions. The testing confirms that the solid oxide electrolyzer performs well in a fluctuating operational mode which is required to run on variable solar and wind power generation. “Seeing the solid oxide electrolyzer production underway in Herning shows how much progress we have made on this journey together. I am proud to be working with a company that brings this level of excellence in innovation to pave the way for a truly sustainable future of green hydrogen and green ammonia production that is flexible and efficient.” – First Ammonia CEO Joel Moser “This is an important milestone for both Topsoe and First Ammonia. Projects like the Port of Victoria green ammonia facility are vital to decarbonizing energy-intensive industries such as long-distance transportation and maritime shipping. Our SOEC technology continues to perform very well in testing and our factory remains on schedule to be operational by the end of the year.” – Topsoe Power-to-X CEO Kim Hedegaard ? Our Global Head of Project Development Lee Raymond, was thrilled to be involved in this special visit to Victoria, TX, where The Trade Council of Denmark in North America - Energy and Environment and members of the Danish press were able to explore for themselves why First Ammonia and European Energy have selected this region to build their innovative PtX facilities. With our Topsoe partnership, we are proud of our Danish connections, and were more than happy to co-host with our friends from the Victoria Economic Development Corporation, Port of Victoria, and of course Mayor Duane Crocker. Special thanks go to Jeff Wright of Victoria Preservation Inc. for the charming venue, and for the lovely detail in preparing a display of Victoria’s very own historical Danish connections.

? What does the future hold for the energy transition in the US? ? This week, our Head of Energy, Morten Siem Lynge and advisors Mie Andersen Wickstr?m, and Zahra Khadir, along with a group of representatives from Danish media, embarked on a Texas road trip to explore this question. Over two packed days, the group discussed energy policy, met with Danish companies, and explored the growing footprint of Danish energy solutions in the US. Highlights from the trip included: ???Visiting GRUNDFOS to see their energy-efficient water solutions, exploring Topsoe's energy projects in Texas, and learning about Ammongas' growth in the US biogas industry. ???Meeting with Brett Perlman at Center for Houston's Future, understanding the US hydrogen ecosystem and the HyVelocity Hub selected to receive 1,2 bn USD government funding as one of seven regional hydrogen hubs. ???Traveling to Victoria, Texas, where companies like Danish European Energy and US First Ammonia are driving clean energy projects and sharing updates on their progress. As the US gears up for the 2024 presidential elections, energy production and transition conversations are gaining renewed attention. While the elections may impact the future direction of national energy strategies, one thing all the stakeholders we met could agree on is that the momentum and demand for clean energy only continues to grow. With Denmark's wind, water management, and power-to-x leadership, Danish businesses are well-positioned to collaborate with US counterparts to accelerate the energy transition. And what better place to explore such opportunities than in the leading state for producing renewable power in the US, Texas ?? We want to thank everyone who took the time to meet with us and join us in exploring the challenges and opportunities in the future of US energy transition: Nordiske Medier A/S, Berlingske, Mandag Morgen, Finans, Ritzaus Bureau, GRUNDFOS, Topsoe, Center for Houston's Future, Ammongas, European Energy, First Ammonia, Victoria Economic Development Corporation, Port of Victoria. #energytransition #cleanpower #DenmarkinUSA #WorkingforDenmark

    President and CEO Topsoe

I have just returned after spending 2.5 days with our Global Leadership Team, engaging in discussions on leadership, market outlooks and Topsoe's strategic direction. I always look forward to these leadership summits because spending dedicated time together, deep diving into topics that truly matter for the future of our company and celebrating how far we have already come is critically important to be able to move things forward as a unified global leadership team. This year, we were privileged to have the U.S. Ambassador to Denmark, Alan Leventhal, give his perspective on the U.S.-Denmark relationship and collaboration. We were also joined by Nathalie Brunelle Soulas from TotalEnergies and Kevin Barnes from First Ammonia, providing us with their perspectives on how to drive the energy transition forward through strong collaborations and partnerships. The important discussions, workshops, insights and fun we’ve shared as a leadership team these past few days have underscored just how ambitious and engaged this group is. In combination with our innovative and advanced technologies and solutions and our many dedicated colleagues across all sites, I firmly believe that we will unlock Topsoe’s full potential as a global leader in the energy transition. #LetsDecarbonize
