Did you know: - 36% of the families we serve experience food insecurity/hunger. - 30% of families we support reported inadequate or unstable housing with 16% unhoused or living in a shelter. We're hiring! Good+Foundation is seeking a full-time Administration & Human Resources Manager to meet the evolving and expanding needs of our organization and staff. This new position will report to the Chief Program & Operating Officer and will play a pivotal role in supporting all aspects of the employee experience at Good+Foundation, including recruiting, onboarding, benefits management, cultivating the professional growth of our national team (currently 15 staff members in NY & 6 in LA), coordinating and updating internal HR policies and procedures, and the off boarding process. This week is National Young Readers Week! The goal is to encourage children to love reading and to raise awareness of the importance of literacy. Reading is a very important activity in a child's life that develops skills and enhances the way the brain functions. Consider hosting a book drive this month to collect gently used and new books for early readers ages 0-5 that we will share with local families over the holiday season. What we’re reading! The RAPID-California Voices Project recently released a state-wide survey of households with children under six. Their data found that a majority LA County parents with young children have difficulty meeting basic needs. Research like this supports the importance of our work supporting under-resourced families in Los Angeles. 35% of families we serve are Co-parenting. The focus of our last National Partner Convening, which brought together east and west coast program partners, was Co-Parenting. During the session, participants viewed excerpts from Shaka Senghor and Ebony Roberts powerful TEDxDetroit talk, which shared their journey of healthy co-parenting, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing their son's well-being and the role that happy parents play in that process. Following the viewing, Good+ Training Academy team Alan-Michael Graves and Caleb Beyah facilitated a conversation about the realities of co-parenting, “parallel parenting”, and how to prioritize a child's well-being in every situation. For children who are facing difficult circumstances, like many that we serve at Good+, having a toy can bring a sense of normalcy and joy. Engaging in play with a parent not only strengthens the parent-child bond but also lays the foundation for essential life skills. We rely on toys collected at toy drives from the Good+ community to distribute to families through our network of partner organizations. Consider selecting from our Amazon Gift Registry to send toys to children or hosting a toy drive this month.

In honor of Veterans Day, we'd like to highlight one of the veterans on the Good+ Team, Caleb Beyah. Caleb is a Trainer with the Good+ Training Academy and is also a veteran and retired Military Officer who served more than 24 years (15 years of enlisted service and 9 years as an Officer). He holds a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor's in Psychology from California State University, Northridge. In his role at Good+ Training Academy, Caleb focuses on learning, capacity building, and program development for community-based organizations and child welfare agencies across the County. When asked about how his military experience impacts his Training Academy work transforming social service systems, Caleb shared: “For me, it's about service. My service to this Country, the men and women in my unit, the families they left behind, and doing my part to protect our democracy meant a lot to me. Regarding my civilian employment, It's also about service. Being of service to the communities of organizations we are in partnership with, the family and children we provide resources and services, and for the greater good to the number of challenges we all face daily. Whether we are talking about my time in the military or while I was at the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services or Good+Foundation; it all comes back to a commitment to serve, "To serve and be of service".
