Being in this industry, I am taken aback by what seems to be an endless exploitation of what (in commen-sense-land) is off-limits. Really, will renting this iconic building and allowing rando's to play gladiator bring more people to see a movie? Is this what our industry is boiling down to - projects that revolve around poorly thought out advertising stunts? Let's see...what's next...Big Brother at a monastery? HGTV at The Great Wall? Just spend the money on making good movies people....PLEEEEASE?

Okay, so here is another big blockbuster, franchise in the making crapbox that failed. Lost hundred million +. Hollywood studio + franchise only mentality = uneven financial model. If y'all were being paid as financial advisors to the company, you'd be fired. Hedge with smaller, well-made, unique stories. Make a few mid-budget films (ohhhhh...nooooo....not mid-range budget!) Quit just trying to remake, unmake, pre-make, post-make, and rip off IP that has no business being live-action! https://lnkd.in/gR5TFGre

Wow! Yep, we can make many many many movies for that.
The sequel to 2019’s billion-dollar hit “Joker” is a box office disaster. So far, "Joker 2" has grossed $51.5 million domestically and $165 million globally after two weeks of release. By comparison, the first “Joker” had generated $96.2 million domestically and $248.4 million globally after three days of release. The sequel won’t earn anywhere near that much by the end of its theatrical run, with ticket sales projected to stall at a lifetime gross of $65 million domestically and $210 million to $215 million globally when “Folie à Deux” leaves the big screen.? ? That’s a huge problem because “Joker 2” cost $200 million to produce and roughly $100 million to market and distribute. At this rate, the film won’t get anywhere close to the $450 million needed to break even in its theatrical run (ticket sales are split between studios and theater owners).? https://lnkd.in/g4B5Q29y

I don't hate using technology in media content but I wonder if you have a shot in hell of getting on streamers, theatrical, or any afterlife with condition #2. How do you make money here? How do you copyright it? I would love to hear other's thoughts. If you truly want to help filmmakers, don't make conditions that you own the rights to use their films in perpetuity or they must distribute through YOU. That, my friend, is self-serving. 1. Grant recipients retain full IP rights to their creations, with the condition that they allow Runway full rights to showcase the work for promotional purposes in perpetuity. 2. Recipients agree to showcase your work through our distribution channels, including our international AI Film Festival and partner networks. https://lnkd.in/gisguSHK
